I always did consider him a real great and a massive inspiration to me. But today I've been looking into the 1980 World Champs at Sallanches.
Bernard finished 1st in 7 hours 32 minutes? and of the 107 starters only 15 finished. STB.

Probably the rider that got me into bikes in the 1st place - was ultra mad on BMX until I watched a stage of the TDF and couldn't believe how he would grind away the opposition. I always considered Indurain to be his succesor, but never really saw Armstrong in the same light until later in his career.
