For example would crawling through the snow and throwing the bike ahead of you just to make progress be epic or misadventure? ๐
If you're still alive it was an epic adventure.
Tonight I am sober and shall not be indulging in this kind of banter ๐
It depends on whether to turn back would spell certain death.
If yes, then misadventure - if no, then you're not trying very hard!
Before today I thought it was impossible to have an epic or an adventure, let alone a misadventure, in the Pentlands. Turns out I was wrong.
It would depend on whether you were just going to the post office on the corner and decided to crawl along in the snow etc, or whether you were somewhere a bit more, ummmmmm, epic?
its usually classed as misadventure around the time they find your body.
Minor Epic - Just get to the pub before last orders
Epic - Miss last orders
Major Epic - Get back at anytime around or after day break the following day
Fortunately, I havent experienced a Major Epic for a good few years!!!
I saw Goan disappear into his snow hole and couldn't see the post office anywhere. In fact I couldn't see **** all. Not even the dyke two feet away.
I also went round the Pentlands today and at one point during a pretty hefty snow blizzard just after Green Cleugh and having to spend 10 minutes hiding behind a wall to keep out of the blizzard i was ready to call todays outing a mis adventure. Looked at turning back but that would mean heading into the the wind/blizzard so just had to press on. The climb up Maidens Cleugh was hard going, particularly through the 2 ft snow drifts.
Sitting at home now nice n warm can call todays trip an epic
from aviemore up n down glen einech, rothiemurchus, lairg ghru, white bridge, meant to return up glen feshie, but didn,t,ended up in blair atholl,52 road miles from the car,in the dark, had to get friends wife to come n rescue us,11 hours in the saddle, got home 23 hours after setting out. EPIC
Certainly wasn't no fairytale. ๐
ended up in blair atholl,52 road miles from the car,

That first photo looks like the blizzard i was in, where about were you.
Think it was round the back of Black Hill, but I'm crap with names of places in the Pentlands.
Area should have been SHUT in those conditions if you ask me...
๐ ๐
Twas the back of Black Hill and it was my stupid idea...
I did tell you that it was sunny in the Pentlands though. ๐
If I wasn't so bolloxed I'd laugh myself right off this chair.
ok wasn,t 52 miles from the car it was actually 53.7 mile,we were parked up at the bagaduish centre.
An attempt at a grading system
Epics usually end up well, everyone survives after a long time out. Major epic involves a big yellow helicopter and a stretcher ride/last orders missed. Misadventure would be major injury or death of a party member and the kendal mint cake supplies being exhausted. Scotts mission to the South Pole would be classed a tragedy.
Twas Grim.
It looks great!
your sat at home telling the tale ..epic adventure ..done
cheesybeanZ has it
except if you didn't get home with all your gear then it is epic incompetence
