Manuals = things used to fix cars and make software work
Wheelies = front wheel up in the air riding along.
When you stopped pedalling...
When you stopped peddaling.
EDIT: Dang.
Clearly I'm the quickest Sarcy git in the west GNAR! ๐
When you .....Oh ar$e
whe...
Some old duffer's been skim-reading MBUK. ๐
Nope. A wheelie has never required pedaling. Well it didn't 40 years ago . Its just the front wheel in the air.It changed its name to become trendy and allow some one to look clever.
Well it didn't 40 years ago
Wotev R grandad LOLZORD
no 40 yrs ago it was called luck!
When you stood up and took your Ass off the saddle!
Wheelie is sat down (Pedalling to keep the wheel up)
Manual would be stood up using body weight and balance more.
Who cares, when you can do [url=
you probably wont give a shit what it's called.
Wheely sat down pedalling.
Manual, out of saddle not peddaling
when you can manage either, we will listen to you quibble about naming conventions.
Can I get a penis pump with and some sex with local girls in my area tonight with that please?
there you go, that 88 fella's got it.
that's when they became manuals.
will you love me long time?
Manual, stood up
Power assisted lift, sitting down.

Jesus Christ you people are going to have try and get used to the idea that people will try and use language to describe apects of this "sport". Was there an uproar when the frankly stupid term "mountain bike" was invented? After all it was probably just a standard cruiser with chunky tires.
And what about wheelie? That's bloody stupid...in my day we called it getting the front wheel off the ground using pedalling force and shifting your weight back.
Manualling is rad to the power of sick.
Gibberish.
Its a wheelie on a motorbike and you dont pedal that.
When you stand up its a standing up wheelie.
Motorbikes have been around long enough for the fashionable words to have forgotton us and moved on. Its been a wheelie since it was invented and still is.
What do you call it on a unicycle ?
The difference between a wheelie and a manual is not whether you are stood up or not but whether you are using pedalling to keep the front wheel in the air (wheelies) or just using balance to keep the front wheel in the air (manual) regardless of whether you are standing or seated.
They've been manuals for years. Originally came from skateboarding I think.

Can you do one without the engine running?
So a wheelie on a skateboard is a manual if you stand up and don't pedal?
Yes, you're using balance to keep the front wheels up rather than power hence a manual.
Easy.
Same reason as why a wheelie on a motorbike is a wheelie and not a manual whether you are stood up or not. You need power to keep the wheel lofted.
Wheelie - pedal with your front wheel off the ground
Manual - coast with your front wheel off the ground
Neither of which I can do (on purpose)
Just after flares became 'boot cut'.
My skid odometer shows 128,992 metres, but i think it might have gone round the clock. I once did a skid that went for two weeks.
rad to the power of sick indeed. Lol at pook hoisted by his own petard!

Unless you're from the US or Oz, when it becomes a 'horn mono' I believe. Rad to the power of cool. Or something.
u iz all ghey
Because when you have a very strong French accent and you say want to pull a wheelie it can lead to rather embarrassing misunderstanding...
Wheelie - arse on saddle & pedaling
Manual - arse off saddle not pedaling
and...
Coaster - arse on saddle not pedaling
Incorrect, it has nothing to do with whether your bum is on the saddle or not.
I think these terms came from BMX and hence pre-date MTBing.
Correct molgrips
so what's it called when you're going down a steep slope with your nuts on the stem and feet unclipped with the back wheel off the ground? Being that is basically the limit of my one-wheeled 'skilz'
Nose manual.
A girl I know once got pregnant by watchin me manual, it was that extreme to the max
laugh out very loud at theotherjonv...he has summed up my one wheeled skills to a tee.
When we all used to bmx as kids, there was a bloke called Ranjee (might have been Ranji) who could wheelie all the way from the bottom of my road to the top, turn round and come back down again. Road is a cul-de-sac with a turning circle at the bottom and a gradually increasing gradient the further you go. It is pretty steep at the top.
I doubt he could have manualled up it, but perhaps down it.
