Looking for a wheelset for a new build, but not sure what I want. Have a Hope Pro 4/ DT EX511 combo on my full sus which I've pinched for now, but think I want bigger tyres for the new hardtail. Currently have a 2.5 DHF and 2.4 DHR2 and was thinking 2.6 front and rear on the new wheels. Don't fancy swapping tyres, I'd like to just be able to pick up one of the bikes and ride.

Probably not going to be tackling anything too drastic on the hardtail, red trails at most. Have a set of 2.3 high roller 2's and was thinking about getting a more XC oriented set of wheels (2nd hand) to stick them on, but then not sure if these would stand up to abuse?

Would also like to be able to use both bikes at the same time when friends visit so just pinching the pro4/EX511 rims and existing tyres isn't really a long term option.

Am happy building wheels, so maybe there is a sensible hub/rim combo I could look at building?

Budget is basically anything up to a pair of Hunt Trail Wides (£339) but the cheaper the better.

Don't really know what I want, someone please tell me!

Pertty much exactly what I've got DT 350/EX511on the FS, Trail Wides with 2.6 tyres on teh Hardtail.

Rode the hardtail everywhere with the Trail Wides, then bought the DT wheels for a trip to Dyfi bike park. when I bought a FS, the DTs went on that.

If you want 2.6 for a bit of extra cush on the hardtail, I don't think you really need more width on the rim. You're going to be giving the tyres less of a hard time in the corners, so the support's less crucial.

Trail Wides are good, I bought them cos I was in a hurry and next day delivery meant I could be riding the next day. I'd rather have a quieter hub - you've got Hopes already, so you might be less bothered!

In your shoes, Id be tempted to see what bits you can find on sale and go from there. Bitex/ Novatec, nicer s/h. Sapim spokes (DT seem to be in limited supple and limited deals. available.

e.g. https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/spank-350-vibrocore-mountain-bike-rim/rp-prod165694 not super light, but I've heard good things about comfort, and they're a smidge lighter than EX511 (545g v 570g)

When I wanted a pair in a (semi) hurry last month I couldn't see past the Trailwides - not at £300.

Work just fine, plenty of abuse already (live in the Tweed Valley) - I'd buy another pair.

Just seen they're now £340.

Thanks guys, also struggling to see a better option than the trail wides unless I happen upon some great deals on hubs and rims.

I've got a hankering for a lighter set of trail wheels myself, I'd probably just buy the Hunts if they hadn't hiked the price by £40 and are we sure the new trail rims will really be more durable than the famously fragile V1 rims?

Sorry guys, looking for 29er microspline

Chainreaction were selling the nukeproof horizon v2 wheels as a bundle which included the wheelset in 29/microspline, with 2x ard tire inserts and a bottle of sealant for £350.

I bought these wheels a few months back and I rate them. Stiff and fast engagement, excellent value for money.
