Question. If pulling the front wheel up requires more effort on a middle ring than a granny ring, would I notice any difference between a 32 and 34 toothed ring? I'm thinking of switching from 44/32/22 to 34/22.
And if the answer's no, what about a 36/22 ?
Thanks
WTF
YES/NO
If you think 2t will make a difference you are doing wheelies wrongly!

No honest I'm not mental...try pulling a wheelie on your big ring, then repeat on the small ring. You'll notice it's easier on the small ring, so is 4 extra teeth noticeable?
It's not possible to wheelie using a 34t chainring.
Odd question. Shift a cog or two at the back and see for yourself.
I think you miss the point Rockplough, that wouldn't have the same effect.
SimonD, I can wheelie on a 44t but it takes noticeably more effort.

rockplough isnt missing the point at all.
its purely a factor of ratio surely?
putting a bigger cog on the front is the same as shifting to a smaller cog at the back.

Is it? Really? ๐ฏ ๐ณ

Obviously not exactly the same, but enough to know if you can pop a wheelie. Unless of course you're not talking about gear ratios, in which case yes I have missed the point. ๐
If you want to wheelie in a higher gear, just go a bit faster FFS.
