any knowledge on the above in Sheff? Is AE Butterworth on London Road good? Just need a re-tension & true (& a stubborn cassette lockring removing - snapped the basic chain whip I tried 🙁 ) Would rather not use JE James unless I have to. ta in advance

Langsett cycles on infirmary road are pretty good. Butterworths is really a roadie shop, am sure they could do that for you though.

just spoke to JRA: very nice, very helpful but they only do work to wheels bought from them. Langsett or Butterworths in Hillsborough were recommended. Sounds like JE James have a very good wheel-builder too, shame.

18bikes - nice try 🙂 go on then, how much to re-tension/true a pair of wheels (32 spoke, brass nipples) & crack the cassette lockring off & what time scale? Email in profile if posting this will infringe forum rules etc.

Buy the tools and do it yourself. You will be glad in the long run.

Or depending on where you are we might be closer: Lex's in Penistone.

Butterworths at Hillsborough are fantastic - come and see me - if you'd brought it to me instead of starting this thread you would probably be out riding by now!
Incidentally - we repair both road and mountain bikes - often bought at a large local retail outlet that attracts considerable attention on this forum.
If you need a reference - do you remember watching Malc Elliott winning rounds of the Kelloggs city centre series? or David Baker riding cx? - I built those wheels.
Regards
Chris
