My six month old MTB has started weeping oil from the Rock shox reba's under the Uturn knob the shop where I bought it from say this is down to the way its stowed (verticle back wheel grounded front wheel attached to the wall) thats bo**oxs I think as I have other bikes and have stored this way for years never any probs. ๐Ÿ˜•

I doubt it. Fox forks are supposed to be stored upside down, and loads of shops have bikes stored that way.

wouldn't the right way up have been more sensible - surely that's how most people keep their bikes ?

My pace forks do the same but that's a well known 'feature' of them. All my other bikes are fine inc the ones with Rebas and Revelations so b*****ks

Yeah I suggested this as both my other bikes run Fox forx but the guy tells me that the fox use a cartridge oil and the rock shox use a open bath not being 100% on this I backed down, still think its Bo**ox though.

From my understanding there is only a small amount of oil in the forks (15ml?). It may be leaking from the valve, I get a small amountleak out when I remove my shock pump, are you sure it's not this and it's accumulated in the u-turn adjuster. It's supposed to be fairly easy to remove the u'turn so you could clean it up and see if it comes back.

Also the usual side for rs forks to leak is on the damping side eg right, not the left u turn side.

My Rebas leaked oil when stored in the same position as yours. The seals were shagged.

Deffo not the seals may be just a O ring underneathe the U turn cap yep should be easy to replace and there under warrenty so the shop can sort it, I think they run a small amount of oil in the compresion leg. I know the guy at the shop tell me to store it with both wheels on the groung.

we have several bikes hanging up.

all the u-turn forks leaked when they were hanging from front wheel. the fixed travel ones didn't. hang the bike from rear wheel and it'll be fine.

Taken from TF tuned F.A.Q here

My U-Turn air fork leaks oil from under the U-Turn adjuster cap. What's this?

This only occurs when the bike is upside-down or on its side, when the lube from the lowers escapes through the top. During service, we fit a modified O-ring to reduce this significantly.

Thanks for that same experience but why has it took six months to start happening and is it worth taking it back to the bike shop???

Mrs Flange (ha) has Reba's that have done the same thing. Piss oil out when hung the wrong way

FWIW, I always clip-tie the brake levers too as it seems to prevent air moving up through the brake's servo system. Works a treat.

Yep - store a rockshox equipped bike hanging by it's rear wheel to avoid the leaking.

I am with Ti 29, hang from the front wheel but have suffered bad brakes after being upside down. Fox forks seem fine with this.....

You have servos in your brakes? Didn't realise they made ABS for bikes yet...

Move with the times 201, it's 2009 after all!
hydraulic brakes is what what I meant to say.
Clip-ties and gaffer tape fix most everything on a bike, but then I have Fox forks, Ikea Spoons and Gerber Knives.
