How have I never noticed the name (and reason for the name) ‘Tempest’ before!! Now I really want one.

Can you show your working? I just assumed that after spitfire and hurricane it was just a word association thing.

Ohh and, damn you! I've already got 2x on ones in the shed, a Scandal on the way and there's an inevitability about that 29er!

sick strike

I bought a 29 strike second hand off ebay. Built it up with 160mm forks. It looks very similar to the 29", with paint. It was sold to me as xxl.

It rides well, especially when things get steep 🙂

List of complaints 0.

It has to be assumed that Tempest is named for Brant...

It's the photo of tall_martin's bike from the post above. I like the paint job.

Well at least we know Martin's username is accurate.

So big it makes 29in wheels look like 26in.

So when he says “list of complaints, 0” that’s because he’s only ever ridden it in the dark and has no idea what it looks like then?

He's got a full size track pump strapped to that frame!

And there's room for at least three more bottle cages.

I like it.

Looks a hoot to ride, well downhill.

Not sure I would make the most of a bike like this but doesn't stop me wanting one!

Errr, why do the lines on that bike look strange? I've never really thought of it before, but the angle between the head tube and the seat post just looks really, really wrong to me. Like it's landed heavily on both wheels and the bottom part has be stretched out while the top has compressed.

Also, moss on the bottom of the fence panel. You need to get that scrubbed off and treated. Come on man, standards!

Thanks for the compliments! The paint job is a purple/ blue flip flop job. It looks much better when you can see it move. The lines on the shed don't do it any favours but I've not got any better photos.

It's a mini pump, a big one:-)

It's a 170mm reverb, but my inside leg is 36" so it's a way out the frame.

Shed has seen better days 😉

It rides well both down and up hill and jumps surprisingly well.

I was sold it as being for 160mm forks, but on Brants link he said it's for 150mm. It would probably look less odd at 150.

What about tight corners? From the looks of it you’ve got no chance of getting around one with your front wheel and torso still in the same time zone.

Tight corners are fine*

* I don't really ride anywhere with tight corners. Peaks, Cannock, Ambergate and Bestwood are my locals.

I've been on a geometron for a couple of years. There have only been a couple of corners where the length of a bike was a problem. 800mm wide bars are the limiting factor for me.

On One 48hr

Because as the teachers were explaining today, after you’ve been sick it’s 48 hours later when you return.

Serious question, when it’s that long and slack, will the forks want to snap at the crown on a big drop to flat.

I'm sure an engineer will be along in a moment tell you that an extra 5* slacker won't up the forces too much. However in principle you are right - fork crown and head tube welds under more pressure.

I'm more concerned about it being at the extreme end of some handling traits and the fact that it looks like a clown bike...

But when is it due to land?

Head, top and down tubes arriving Monday. Seat tube, seat and chain stays on Thursday

I Wasn't sure on the looks at first, but weirdly it's starting to grow on me. I'd assume that forks are overengineered enough to take the stresses (and the frame should be built with that in mind right?).

I don't need a new bike, but...
