I know there is the South Downs Way, just wondered what else is good to ride in that area around Arundel. And is there a good curry house within a 3ish mile radius?
Cheers

Was there a couple of weeks back visiting a friend
To be honest its like riding on canal paths with a little climbing
Some lovely views but that was about it for me.
You would only need a 80mm travel bike.

There's loads of lush singletrack tucked away to the north and west of arundel, can't comment on the curry I'm afraid!

Now that's two very different opinions, where did you ride Grantway?
Hummerlicious is any of that singletrack near a place called Whiteways?

Get 'someone who knows' to take you round Whiteways 🙂

Following the river Arun would be very flat but I can assure you that the Downs certainly aren't. Amberley Mount is one of the steepest climbs on the South Downs Way.

I don't know the area well enough to recommend specific routes but there is loads of riding round there. Possibly not if you want techie single track but there's no shortage of XC paths.

Yep grantway can't be local 😀
It depends upon the sort of riding you want to do - there are different options.
Never stopped for curry in Arundel so can't help there tho'

Houghton forrest (Whiteways) is fun but a pretty small area, more somewhere to go as part of a ride or start/end point with parking & cafe/toilets. Loads of bridleway in the area, just get a map & go!

I think What Mountain Bike had some routes in the Arundel area (Storrington is only the other side of the downs) this month. If it is XC you are after they didn't look bad. Nice mix of singletrack & downland views if I remember correctly.

As for curry, I usually go to the Magna Tandoori as it is well priced & usually pretty quiet. The Castle Tandoori costs a little more, is mostly pretty full and is a step up in the decor. Love the curries at both though. Walking distance between the two so check them both out & pick one.

You may also like to find Slindon Pits near Arundel where, approx 15 years ago, I broke the end off my ulna trying to get some air out the other side of 'The Devil's Drop'. Surprisingly hard to start/stop riding a bicycle when one arm is useless & rather painful 🙁

Nope not local but friend lives in Arundel and been riding with a group for years
We started out near Rackham if that helps.
Done a very large loop surrounding Arundel for around 3hrs so I must have done
something And certainly not single track.

Go and have a ride as i say very nice scenery take a camera
just obviously did not float my boat.

I am not into XC so this might be an energy rush to some but done nothing for me.

Cheers, thanks for the imput, there's a very strong possibility that I could be moving there very soon so it's good to know, thanks for the curry tip Rubber Buc, I have an excellent curry house where I live now and will miss it.
What's the winter conditions like, I don't mind a bit of mud plugging and I know the chalky downs will be slippery, just wondered if that singletrack is still rideable?

I know they had heavy snow last and this year
The soil seam to be a mix of white ish soil with stones
so should hold up pretty well.

The terrain where was wet in places, which had a waxy feel.

If you want someone to show you around the local singletrack, I'll do so, but I'm broken at the moment so will have to be in a month 🙂

Unfortunately slindon pits is no longer, it is used for 4x4 days and the tracks have been destroyed.

Plenty of good riding around whiteways, eartham and slindon though.
