I'm sticking a disc on the front of my CX and I already have a barely used MTB BB7 in the 'things to sell when I get round to it' box. Is there any way it can be got to work with roadie STI's?

Or do I have to buy a Road version to avoid death?

I'm guessing, but I suspect that it's to do with whether they work with mountain bike v-brake levers or road bike levers.

It's about the ammount of cable pull. Roadie levers pull less cable. So you can use it but you'll probably be pulling the lever all the way to the bar.

You can get some sort of cam device to make it work. Can't remember what is called though.

Yeah, that's it, but what is the difference? Do MTB levers pull more or less cable than road ones?

If it's more, and I used the MTB BB7s with road levers then I suppose I'd squeeze them all the way without the pads hitting the disc. But then could I not run the pads nearer to the disc?

If it's less, and the pads hit the disc really quickly, could I not just run them further away from the disc?

The first option you mentioned. Even if the pads and disc did meet, it'd feel spongier than a sponge.
