The Gravity Dropper on my bike seems to have got cracked in our recent move, so I could do with replacing it.
Given that it's on an old bike, is 27.2mm and externally routed, and I hope to get a new bike in the near to mid future which will have/need a dropper that will be neither of those things, I don't really want to spend much money on it.
Is their a decent cheapy eBay job at the moment, or is the best bet the Brand-X Ascend II at 'only' £140?
Second hand Brand X?
If it's already used it will a) be cheaper to buy b) have depreciated less when you get your new frame and put this one back on ebay
Brand x 27.2 posts hold their value ime. If you can get hold of a new one I'd buy it before it goes out of stock.
A lot of older CX bikes, gravel bikes and monster cross bikes (old mtb frames l) are 27.2 so seem to be really sort after plus I don't think they make as many in 27.2.
Yeah, I guess the BrandX is probably the way to go. Ta.
Also interested in this for an old steel voodoo. Does anyone know the maximum travel for a 27.2 post?
The BrandX posts are 105mm drop. The Thomson and some KS Levs were 125mm, but they’re as rare as unicorn poo.
100 to 105mm is the norm.
Tmars /quatro sports are the cheapest on ebay for 27.2, 90mm ,
£55
have one on my wife bike it's OK, not as slick as a gravity dropper , done about the 100km so far and all working
I put a T-mars on the wife's bike a couple of years ago. It's been ok. Not as slick as my command post but has been reliable. It's much nicer with an upgraded lever. The stock one was pretty poor.
There’s a brand x 27.2 external cable dropper local to me on Facebook marketplace. The seller is after £50 and £5 postage.
That Facebook one is sold 🙁
Is it one of these TMars ones that folks are using?
That'd do I reckon, but not sure it'll be quite long enough for my gangly legs, will have to measure up and see.
That looks about the same as the wife's. The lever looks different and cable entry is at a different angle. Both upgrades IMO.
Might be worth sliding open the cover on the cable entry and putting some decent grease in, too
