So we had a food thread the other day and most people carry water/drink but what else do people carry? pump ,tubes,multitool etc for probably all of us....but what else.. sensible or silly. dont mind...
No camelback - it all goes on the bike.
Multitool, spare tube, puncture kit, m5 and m6 nut and bolt, sram links, spare couple of links of chain ( for the timing chain on the tandem) a couple of cable ties, pump
Tube, puncture repair kit, Alien III Multi tool, leatherman, tyre levers, pump, chain links, PVC tape, cable ties.

as above but also a first aid kit, space blanket, whistle, an out-of-date energy bar and some little LED lights - all for emergencies. I am constantly ridiculed for "being prepared" (usually by those who don't even have a spare tube) but am happy to have not needed any of these things in anger (yet!).

Plus more paraphenalia for anything in likely bad weather or going anywhere exposed.
In winter I add a dry fleece, trousers and a trekking towel so I can change in station loos before sitting freezing on the train home.

I always thought a spare mech hanger was a good idea. Never quite got round to it...

MMM being a chick (who would never ride alone for various reasons). I carry a whistle, foil blanket, small penkife, £5 ish in change, 1 spare inner tube, multi tool, 3 litres of water and a cereal bar or lunch (depending on ride).
Mr MC carries all the pumps, chain links, more inner tubes, spare jockey wheels etc etc the kitchen sink! But I'm not complaining as he's saved me on many occasion!

Anything else and you could keep argueing untill you end up carrying a spare bike!
for longer rides:
first aid kit - although it'd be fek all use, any injury requiring just a plaster isnt realy serious enough to be life threatening, may as well talke a clean rag to stop any realy serious beleeding, and a bottle of dettol, generaly bikes get you too far from anwhere and go too quickly to stand a chance of walking out with an injury.

99% of mechanicals you know are going to happen before the ride, how many times has someone in your group had a mechanical and uttered the words "i thought it felt a bit funny/loose/tight/rough". Get it sorted before you go!
