Wanting to get a new pair of baggies so I can walk through the office after commuting in without getting heckled with cries of "Was it cold this morning then?"

Whats popular at the moment? I've always liked the fit of Endura and the realistic sizing of Altura. Wear them over bobshorts so liners not important. Not fussed by pockets and clever features. Lightweight or breathable a definite bonus.

What does the panel recommend?

I'm in a similar (spendy money) mood for the coming spring, I practically live in my Endura MT500 3/4 baggies year round as i wear them all day at work and they are handy for the commute back n' forward. I've 3 pairs and they've lasted 3 years so far but the tape on the inner seams is starting to come off - no surprise though as they have seen a lot of wear.

I've tried the Swerve range but the small thigh sizing seems to be for skinny hipsters, I used to have a pair of the Rapha 3/4 shorts (from a few years ago) and they were fantastic, a perfect fit and very comfortable as well as smart looking but i had a rather big "off" and ripped them to shreds.

Not tried the Altura range?, the Metro looks good but i've no idea of the fit/sizing.

It's about time Rapha released another 3/4 riding trouser with either a click fit liner short or a minimal pad fitted that is comfortable for all day wear on/off the bike - I'd buy it.

How about some of Vulpines offerings if it's for your commuting rides.

They don't make a 3/4 trouser/short.

A few years ago (must be near enough 10) i bought a pair of 3/4 shorts from a company in Canada called "under the weather" - i've still got them and they brilliant for summer rides as they are really lightweight.

Endura Urban Shorts maybe? Not 3/4's but close to it and easily the best shorts Ive ever owned. Ive got 3 pairs of them and pretty much live in them from early Spring to late Autumn. They're light but pretty touch/hard wearing and make great commuter shorts because they dry really fast.

I still rate humvees; comfortable, lightweight and dry quickly. Got some altura semidry which are pretty good for when it gets moist outside, although they've just split after 2 or 3 years. The split is on a seam so may be repairable. Probably cba though.

Thanks guys

Quite like the look of the Endura Urbans, but they will also be used for mtbing, so was wondering about Singletracks or Humvees

I've had a pair of Humvees for ever - they last well and have a really useful map pocket in the arse but don't get them wet, they'll still be soggy 6 hrs later

I had humvees years ago but found them utterly useless for riding in, i dunno if the material they use has changed but mine were just some cotton mix that at the slightest provocation by water spray turned into a soggy and baggy sponge so i very soon relegated them to dossing about duties.

I'd prefer a 3/4 riding short that doesn't scream Rad mtb'er, no logos, simple pockets and adjustable leg openings with a decent pad.

Wear shorts or wear trousers, 3/4 length baggies just remind me of those middle aged idiots you see in the summer wearing their 3/4 length tracksuit bottoms and football shirt.

Metros are quite a slim leg for an mtb 3/4. def one to try before you buy. esp if you're not the slimmest yourself I'd imagine.

Grown men in 3/4s = Pirate
Grown men in shorts = that knob from AC-DC

Left field question, if you're wearing bibs with a pad will any short not do?

Personally I don't really notice the spds clicking or the 3/4 bibs when I stop at tesco or wherever now, much less get to the office so don't bother.

Strangely I do feel the need for over shorts when actually mountain biking though...

Why thank you deviant for your sartorial response regarding my preferred choice of clothing, hang on a minute till i disengage the "couldn't give a flying **** what you or anyone else considers how i look" thought process………nope….can't find the switch. Oh well….I'll have to continue with my current dress code, just as well i'm an adult and not affected by ill judged prejudice.

You'd imagine wrong mtbel - 32" waist size, 70 kg - I must admit i do need ample clearance at the front for my massive swinging dick though.

ha ha. 😆

You misunderstood Soma I wasn't actually referring to anyone in particular's size but thanks for sharing your lush stats with us. I'm a 34 waist and a lot heavier than you and the (L) Metros are quite a snug fit on my not fat at all upper leg muscles. not uncomfortably so but not loose if you get me?

have you thought about a Kilt?

I imagine there not that lush, and i may have been lying about one particular stat in particular but that's why i wear out my shorts out in that area - or so i keep telling myself anyway.

I may pester Rapha to have a hunt in their storeroom for some long forgotten 3/4's, I don't want the skin tight hipster look nor do i want the free riding big hucker multi pocket look either….i'm disappearing up a fashion cup-de-sac ain't i?………..either that or about to disappear up my own arse?….Hmmmm?, time to walk away from the keyboard 😉

Thinking outside the box, why not get a Sarong to wear in the office?
