[#8246045]

Just found a crack in the front of my helmet (quit giggling at the back!)

It's a specialized vice which I've had 4+ years. No idea when or how it cracked. Obvs no repairable are they, so new helmet time.

What's all this MIPS do I need it? Quite happy to buy last year's model of something.... Bell? Fox? Giro? 50 to 75 quid.

Have a look at the On-One trail helmet, cheap and pretty well regarded.

If it fits, Spesh Tactic 2. Very good for the money.

Endura humvee. Not the highest tech spec, I am sure, but can't go wrong for 30 quid

I'll second that, the fit is the most important aspect of a helmet. After that the colour, obviously.

50 to 75 quid.

Is this the value you place on your head?

Do you think that extra £ necessarily gives more protection?

I'm liking the Giant Rail I got in the summer, amazingly well vented and comfy.

If it's sold in a shop and has the relevant safety certificate, yes.

The one I bought in Lidl has those, and cost me £4. Built in flashing tail light too.

ISX Trail. Comfiest helmet I have ever owned. Currently about half price at less than £45 at CRC.

IXS trail rs helmet. The most comfortable helmet I've worn. Very popular helmet. Chain reaction had them for £45 before Christmas. Usually around £65-£70

If your spesh helmet is cracked it's worth keeping and considering their crash replacement program.

40% off a like model - but given the vice is discontinued you will likely get discount off the tactic or ambush!

I'm after a new helmet too.

I've got 2 in my basket ready to go.

Bluegrass Goldeneyes - Used to have a large, but it was too big. I've got a MET Parachute in medium that's a perfect fit (same upper shell).

iXS Trail RS - like the look of this one, just can't really try one on.

I bought it from Rutland about 5 years ago and doubt the warranty would be honoured in Australia. The A / NZ safety certs here mean that technically, the same helmet bought in UK or Europe and sent over won't "cover" me, even though it's an identical helmet.

That helmet website says MIPS isn't worth it - your helmet will usually slide around your head anyway.
