he's 59 on wednesday, so nowt too garish... he rides a trek hybrid, so nothing too 'rad' either...
but warm and waterproof is good, as is cheap.

Not sure if you got sorted - I've started using a pair of waterproof Sealskinz gloves bought from an outdoor shop. Not biking specific, but oh-so-toasty.
