So i've bought a 24" jump bike to practice on the local pump track and really enjoying it. However this morning i had my first ever go on a half pipe.

Well i tried to at least, but everytime i got the bike into position my front tyre would just slip down the ramp and i just couldn't find the bottle to go for it.

I have DMR transition tyres which are for general street riding, but do i need some super grippy tyres for a concrete half pipe? Or is just a bit of faith and mtfu?

Oh dear, i'm just gonna have to go for it aren't?

I was hoping some new magic tyres would make me super gnarr.

Was it wet? Some surfaces turn slick when wet.

It had been raining, but the surface and my tyres were both dry.

Hoping to go back on my lunch break and try again!

Concrete's normally pretty grippy, the old metal surface halfpipes were often lethal. Had to coat them in watered down cheap Cola.

honestly its technique.

lip out of half pipe, turn 180, land straight = no tyre slippage.

get up to near vertical, turn with wheels in vague contact with ground and body weight awkward = slippage.

skateparks scare the shite out of me and i'm useless, but i have spent enough time riding em to know if you are good, you can ride round with wood for tyres and bike held together with string, and make it look effortless.

It's just about learning where the grip finishes (excluding things like wet metal ramps which are lethal) and turning before then. It's a common problem for people to think there's something wrong when in fact they're a split second too late going back down.

Just been for a quick lunchtime session.

And after a few stutters at the top of the ramp i nailed it! What a feeling, if i didn't have to come back to the office i would have stayed there all day long.

so it begs the question, what tyres for 360s?
