[#416013]

Got my 2.5 super tacky high rollers on but thinking I want to something a little faster than high rollers......I know they're pretty decent but the weather seems to be gettin better, could I risk something else. Will 2.35s roll faster?

Whats everyone got on?

Bike is meta 55 and riding mostly trail riding. Nothing too lary.

Specialised the captain 2.0. Really like them for afan and other rocky rooty trails. They come in a 2.2 as well.

I've fitted Schwalbe DH 2.5 on mu 456 SE and rode it at Swinley yesterday with a kiddie seat behind me. Great grip but not draggy at all.

Running 2.35" Maxxis ignitors on the big bike, and 1.5" contis on the XC bike.

Both are coping very well.

Hairy which model of schwalbe DH? They expensive? Some tyres seem extremely overpriced IMO. I do like ignitors, very good all round tyre.

Currently using fast fred 2.0, a little squirmy today, and I actually got some 'wheelspin' whilst honking on the bars.
Saying that, it is march FFS ;o)

Be brave.

Supertacky Highroller on the front, 60a on the rear. Both single ply and both 2.35. This is what Ive used this winter and its been fine but where I live alot of the tracks arent particularly muddy.

Oh yes, this combo is much better than a 2.35 super tacky front and rear, therefore it should be much quicker than 2.5 super tackies.

Schwalbe Spice Double Defence, I bought a pair on eBay (brand new) for £30. They are folding, rather light for the size - 916gms each and I like them for general fat burning rides around 35PSI. I have them on 719's and they're fine.

Maybe I'll try some 2.35 HRs with 60A on back. Grips great at the mo, rarely slip out, but would rather go faster

Are your current tyres dual ply or single?

If I were you I would just buy a single ply 60a 2.35 for the rear, it will definitely feel quicker.

Depending on which bike I'm on then...
Conti GP4000s 23c
Specialized All Condition Armadillo 25c (officially the slowest road tyre in the world)
Conti Twister 35c
Kenda Dread Tredz 1.8
Kenda Nevegal/Blue Groove 2.1
Bonty Jones ACX 2.35

Yeh they're dual ply. Bit overkill really.

Right, sure I've got some 2.35s somewhere. And I think one might be 60a compound. Or shall I buy some new ones.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Schwalbe-Space-Downhill-MTB-Tyres-26-x-2-35-Freeride-X2_W0QQitemZ350178158997QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR?hash=item350178158997&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1688|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

These are cheap for schwalbes. Hairy are these similar to yours? Any good

I must be sensible, think I'll stick the 2.35 high roller combination I've got somewhere on.

Well the reason it poured down in Brighton today is because I took the mud x's off on Saturday and put the fire xc's back on. So convinced was I that this would happen that I made sure to get out early yesterday while the sun was still shining. I find the xc's ok for most conditions apart from claggy mud which clogs them very quickly to the point where the wheels will no longer turn.

If they are 2.5 dual ply ST's at the moment then 2.35 Single ply 60a's will make a huge difference.

I change tyres when they're shagged. Got a Kenda Dread tread on the back(so far,so good) and a Maxxis Medusa front, which has coped very well all through the winter. Both 2.1

Spesh Captains on a stumpjumper, loving the dry conditions, much faster rolling than the mud-x that have done sterling winter service

mmmm rubber...

At the moment 3 sets of wheels
1. 2.5 DPC Supertacky Swampthings
2. 2.5 DPC Supertacky High Rollers
3. 2.2 Continental Rubber Queens

Same rotors all round so can mix and match too.

They very much are but mine are kevlar beaded not wire. Mine are hard compound which, in reality, isn't that hard. For under £20 per pair you can't really go wrong I suppose.

2.2 Rubber Queens eh Ed?

How do you like them? Are they heavy? Do they come up bigger than 2.2 MKs?

My three tyre combos are...

2.0 Mud X F&R
2.35 Nevegals DTC rear, sticky front
2.4 Mountain King rear, 2.35 High Roller LUST front

If it's been raining lots I'll take the hardtail with Mud X, if it's been dry I'll take whichever bike I fancy.

On my usual bike, 2.1" Maxxis Ignitors.

For no particular reason than I had been given them just before I decided to go ghetto tubeless (mid-last year) and I can't be bothered to change them.

They seem to be quite a good all-round tyre, or perhaps I'm just a highly-skilled rider. 😉

RRs as always. They worked fine a couple of weeks ago when it was still a bit damp. They work even better now. "Only" 2.1s, as I've not got clearance in the back for bigger.

Nevegals 2.1s at 30psi, ghetto tubeless. Rather slow on dry dirt / trail centres, but invaluable on slippy roots, rocks and mud.

For anything vaguely serious I swap wheels with my HT which has Panaracers XPpro/trailblaster combi, which go fast.

Yes I like them. Not heavy. Proper size (like a Maxxis 2.5!)
