Thinking about getting a turbo trainer (well the SO is) but haven't a clue. I will want to use it with an MTB rather than a road bike if that makes any difference.

Recommendations please or advice on what I should look out for.

just bought one. a jet black mag2 cost £100 cant use mtb on it though as it makes too much noise on the nobblys and i dont think it will do the tyre any good. i got a second hand cannondale and put road tyres on it. i find its pretty good for cardio and does work your thighs if you put in the effort. choc your front wheel on a log or something the same height as the rear. dont spend another £12 plus on a front wheel lift.

I use a yellow pages to lift the front wheel up.

I wouldn't buy a new turbo to be honest - stick a wanted ad on here and see what turns up. A lot of people buy them use em once an never use em again. There is a reason for this.

Get a spare rear wheel and stick a slick on it.

Otherwise, it is rim drive and I reckon they would wear down your rims.

Budget would be handy?

Narrows models down.

What kind of use? odd rainy day ride or serious training?
