hi guys looking at a dialled alpine to make a hardcore hardtail and unsure of what size to go for.im 5,9 5,10 ish and ride an 18 inch inbred but like the idea of a smaller frame so would choose a 16 inch frame but unsure of the toptube length.what are you lot running?

I am 5 7" and ride the 18 ti version. 16 a bit neat for me.

Nr Edinburgh? We have a 16 ti and 18 ti plus an 18 853 for demo available.

i'm 5'7" and have a MK1 15.5" w/short TT. my saddle it rammed back as far as it'll go and it (almost) looks like the amount of extended post is equal to the seat tube . it just fits, but maybe a newer 16" would be better.

very agile thingy it is, though.

5'7" and had the same as Alpin, with none of the seat jammed backness.

i had this very issue when I was looking to get my alpine.

I'm approx 5'10 - 5'11 with a 32" inside leg

I took a chance on the 16" frame, after asking here and also asking mike @ dialled.

16" frame is fine for me. Looks tiny when you get the frame but once built up should be fine.

go for a longer seat post though something like 400mm +

also do a search on here for dialled alpine and you'll find somewhere the thread I started....oh and the red coloured alpine is bootyful ๐Ÿ™‚

@ the bikechain im near bath so nearly as far away as i could get.thanks for the offer though.@ alpin i ride with the seatpost quite low anyway and with an inline post so i can get off the back of the saddle without moving the post.@ grimupnorth your dimensions are identical to mine so may go for a 16.i was looking at the one for sale in the classifieds on here which is a mk1 but its smaller again 15.5 and 21 TT.

i got mine off the classifieds on here also, it's the 16" MK2 frame. Top tube is 22.5", I run mine with a 70mm stem and it's more or less spot on for me.

so the TT on the MK1 model is 1.5" shorter than the MK2......guess you could run it with a longer stem????

I'm 5'10/5'11 with shortish legs and a long back, and ride a 17 inch Mk 1 with a 23 TT. Seems short when I start out on a ride but seems to fit a couple of miles later - weird.

Great bike.

why would you put a XC stem on an Alpine?

short stems, longs forks, post rammed down into the frame. then scream "weeeee arrrrghhh ohh".

@ grimupnorth the mk1s came in a 21 and a 22 length toptube.mk2s then went to 22.5 and 23.5.

5'10" 33 inside leg. I had a long chat with Mike and went for the 16. Not a single regret, it's a great nine and a perfect size. Good for playing and totally rideable for hours at a time.

I'm 5'6" and used to ride a 15/21 and absolutely loved it - great fun. Now the 16 feels small, but depends what riding you want it for. At 5'10" I'd say only get the 16" if you're getting it purely as a play bike. If you wanna take it on longer rides (but still have fun) the 18" would fit the bill.

5'11 on a MK 1 17". Fit is great for its purpose. Razzing it around with the seat down.

Mines an EBB with Alfine and coil Pikes - bosh! 8)

I'm 5'11 and went for a mk2 18" mainly for the extra tt length (I've got a longer body :S). It's a great bike with plenty of standover due to the tt design and perfect for the type of stuff I ride.

(Mr MC posting)

I'm the same size as grimupnorth and have a 15.5" Mk1 with the longer top tube (22") which is closest to the 16" Mk2. 23.5" TT would have a stretched out XC feel for me, which a) I dont like and b) doesnt suit the Alpine.

Great bikes, looking at it makes me want to ride and riding it makes me want to hoon around like a kid.

I'm about 5'10" and used to ride a Mk1 in the 17" (with a 22" top tube). It was great fun, but a little short for longer rides, my back used to feel it the most. I now have a Mkii in 18" with a 23" top tube and its perfect. Still very chuckable and amazing on tight twisty stuff through trees, and I am more comfortable for longer than I was on the smaller one.

I'm 6 foot 2 and had a 17/22 mk1. At your height the 16 would be best, the 18 would be too big. Its not that sort of bike!

this is a really popular bike!thanks for all your replys.i would of tried a ragley in the size 16 so will go for a alpine 16.the type of riding i do is on the quantocks or mendips with steep rocky/rooty downs and steep ish ups so would be perfect.also they look fab slightly smaller with big forks! it pretty much ticks all the boxes for me!
