I'm thinking of buying a cross bike for commuting and general light trail duties but not sure what size frame I would need. I'm 5ft 8in with a 31in inside leg. My other bikes are a 16in Inbred and a medium Trek Fuel (17.5in?).
Looking online I need to multiply my inside leg measurement (minus 25mm to take into account the saddle) by 0.65 to get the correct size cross frame which would be 49-50cm. Does this sound right - for road bikes I would be a 54-55?
Before I venture into a shop for a proper fitting I thought I'd consult the STW masses. So, how tall are you and what size frame do you ride?
Any advice appreciated
Somewhere around 52-54cm (on a normal horizontal TT basis). But fit really depends on top tube length and seat angle.
5'7" small P-X Uncle John. Slightly small in the TT compared to my road bikes (I like a 54cm TT and could prob go longer), but ideal for CX racing.
EDIT: I have short legs/long body (relatively!), so don't like the ST on a bike taller than 52, but need a TT longer than 52.
I'm 5'7" with a 31" inside leg. My MTBs are usually 16" (Scandal 29er, Ti Hardtail, medium Blur XC). I have a VN Amazon I use for CX and that's a 54cm (VTT) frame.
5ft 8" here. I also had a 17.5" fuel and a 16" inbred..both fitted fine.
In terms of CX bikes I ride a Giant TCX in small and a Boardman CX team in Small, again both fit fine.
