[#1682344]

Had a pair of cheap Airwalks for a while now but the soles are really flimsy so I'm looking at getting a pair designed for the job.

So, whats the consensus on a quality, stiff shoe that doesn't break the bank - and no, I don't want any 5:10's 'cos they look like the sort of shoe where one heel should be slightly bigger than the other 😀

If you don't like the look of the Five Ten shoes, but like the idea of the Stealth Rubber sole, just buy a pair of skate shoes you do like then send them to Resoles in Chesterfield to get them resoled in Stealth.

I had a 3 year old pair of Vans I was gonna bin soon cos the soles had holes in them, but sent them to Resoles and they're like new now (and grip pedals great).

Not cheap at £48 but cheaper than a new pair of skate shoes/Vans.

Shimano AM40s are the correct answer IMO. OK, they also make you look like a mong but they're better put together and have the option of adjustable sole stiffness, and better all-weather use (nothing soaks up water like 5 10s). Marginally less grip but that's like saying a nuclear bomb is marginally less deadly than chuck norris, both get the job done.

I think it was the water that killed my 5 10s, they just started to fall apart by the end of the winter. They take so long to dry, can't help. They were great while they lasted though.

Loving the comparison between Chuck Norris and nuclear - quality!

The Resoles idea doesn't really work as that would be £50 on top of a new set of shoes - false economy really.

I like the idea of the AM40's but they are a bit gopping in that golf shoe sort of way. I do kind of think they are the best out there at the moment though unless anyone else can suggest anything?

+1 for 5-10 freeriders. I love mine, they stick like limpets.

I have 5-10 FreeRunners and they are the business. Super tacky version of the stealth sole and have a plastic midsole so shouldn't evaporate over time like the cardboard ones apparently do.
They look good too, not like something from a 'special' shop!

freeriders are bobbins and fall to bits (they don't have a wraparound sole like the hi\low) in my experience

dedicated golf shoe wearer here, and when the sole goes, get the 510 stuff stuck on from the place in sheffield

golf shoe for the win

5/10 impacts for me with superstar nano pedals - really good combo, but they do look a bit err...odd! 😆
