FiveTen Free riders. Look less 'special' than the impacts.

Avoid stealth if just on flats. Too grippy and you have to lift your foot to make small adjustments.
Try 661 filter. cheaper too.

Yep, there's no such thing as too grippy in my book.

To the OP, It's a shame you didn't snap up the Shimano AM 40's much earlier as Merlin were selling them off for £39.95 a long while ago, I have a pair and they work fairly well grip wise, are comfy, the large velcro thing on the top keeps the laces clean and dry and I like the high upper supports on the inside, protecting the ankles but they look like something out of a shop for pimps in L.A or somewhere, you still might get them cheaper than five tens though, I have some Freerider shoes as well which I also like but they don't have protection for the laces on top, nor do they have high upper supports, I would say the impacts look more practical and kinda wish I'd bought them now.

Lastly, don't right off skate shoes, many people wear vans and such like, I have some Adio shoes I wear for leisure and noticed while riding my bike back from LBS that they grip really well, many skate shoes can be had for around £20, £30 or £40 mark.
