my phones take a bit of abuse and I don't use them for too many clever things, so although I fancy the S3 or HTC One X+, I probably just need something that won't break too easily.
Or do the tough covers really work well enough?
Any recommendations?
Thanks
Motorola Defy + Cyanogen mod, mine is still going strong
I have a similar dilema and think the Motorola Razr i looks like it could be good compared to the 2 above - not super tough, but alu frame, kevlar back and splash proof coating.
Sony GO or Active. If you can get them the Sony Acro S or the xperia V (not yet released), neither of which are (or will be)released in the UK (officially). They are all waterproof to about 1m and dustproof. The Acro S and the V probably aren't "tough" in the sense they have been made more rugged though. I can vouch for the Acro s waterproofing though.
Mrs V8 just got a Sony Xperia Go and I'm a little jelous of having a waterproof phone. It's only mid-range but does it's job well. Look at buying outright as they're pretty cheap (£190).
If you want a higher spec wait for the Xperia V which i think will be released in the UK as you can pre-order them from Expansys.
There was a mega thread on the Defy a couple of months back, with some people loving them and some hating how slow they are compared to newer, more powerful phones. The major problem I've found is that although it's waterproof the capacitive screen goes nuts in the rain, and even the residue from a sweaty finger sometimes stops the keypad working. I can deal with a bit of laggyness and a crap camera, but the screen thing is maddening.
The newer Sony phones like the Xperia Go are meant to have "wet finger technology" (ooer) which addresses this, so that's what I'm planning to get next.
Thanks I'll have a look into all those mentioned (although my short list of phones just keeps growing). I was expecting something chunky and probably bright yellow like the http://www.jcbphone.co.uk/handset-range but they all look very normal.
