Hi,

I need to retape a carbon wheel with 26mm internal width. What size do I need? 30-32mm?

Thanks all.

Depends on the shape of the rim but 2-3mm wider than the internal width generally works for me.

I normally go 2mm wider - I guess if there’s a deeply recessed rim bed then maybe a touch wider

Thanks for that. Stans do 27mm and 30mm, hmm 30mm be ok or too much?

The 27mm will be fine. At the end of the day you are just trying to cover the spoke holes - covering the full width of the rim bed makes it less likely you will hook the edge of the tape with the tyre lever putting the tyre on / off.

Great, I’ll get some ordered. Cheers.

I'd recommend Lifeline tape from CRC/wiggle

It's got a bit more flex than stan's, and is probably cheaper as well

If you like Stans, Tesa is same but can be vastly cheaper.

I reckon tape is fine at internal rim width. Some are happy with it narrower too and just do another run, although I've had a tyre lift the tape edge on removal, but that was a more flexible tape.
