... completely new kind of bike on it's way to me in the next week or so, a long travel trail 29er HT with big tyres, burly fork etc. I run XT SPD on everything else off road.
I was thinking of just banging a set of them on, but are those M540 mini platform tyre pedals worth a shot?

Get the m530s. That's the one with the extra cage.

To add. Yes it's worth it as they are easier to find and clip into compared to xc type non caged ones.
