[#388481]

Currently own a S-Works alu that does me quite well but ive just recently bought my gf a new bike and im envious..

Need inspiration as to what to choose from! I like climing, so sth relativley lively would be what im after. If atall possible i'd prefer not to be an advert for the frame manufacturer or wheel manufacturer...!

I live in switzerland, was looking about 4k

The tricky thing is whether double or triple (gasp) but as ive had lots of trouble with my knees, when i climb i have to spin...current setup is triple (and i beat some of the locals on the sprints so..)

What would you buy?

I love my basic spec Roubaix - S-works version, top end triple groupset etc etc should do you fine.

Why don't you ask on a road forum?

If you have to go up you must come down- the king of descenders is the Colnago C50. I still thinks its the best bike around, reliability is awesome, Ive raced the paris roubaix course on mine aswell.
If you want to spend less and have a pure climber the scott addict is apparently good, and super light. Top end time, look, pinarello, cannondale also very good- not many bad bikes around these days.
If you went for new dura ace you could go compact with a range of cassettes from 28-11 - not far off a triple.
i would avoid cervelo- over rated, expensive and toe overlap.
I'd take a triple to the alps, i have done on my previous trips. Saves on patella tendonitis and associated knee problems.

Scott addict, last years, 2008 (with Ultegra rather than SRAM)is the one I've just got.

Highly recommend it, it's my 7th or 8th roadbike and is the best I've had.

Last years addicts are still available from hargroves cycles, and you would have thousands to spare, to upgrade as necessary. Buying top end kit on a whole bike never works out good value- better to get a mid range model and upgrade.
