After purple anodizing made a brief, but abortive attempt at a comeback, what else needs to make the effort to come back in to fashion?

I vote for amber wall tyres. They look so damned classy!

Amber wall tyres? If you mean skin wall I'm with you 100%. I can't stand black wall tyres, they just make a bike "look" heavy, I don't know why. I think Jo Burt might agree.

My 2p's worth: Hite-Rites -why oh why has no one remade these yet, as a budget version of the £150 adjustable seatposts? I can't believe no one has yet. I would buy one today.

My wife's 12.5" GT Backwoods has a full STX RC groupset on it. Works so well I get jealous, and the look and finish of it is fantastic. The Rear mech could almost be more Italian design than regular Shimano stuff.

Had a pair of Amber walled IRC mythos semi slicks. lasted years as the chances of using them were so few and far between, they needed the driest of dusty summer conditions, but damn if they weren't the nicest looking tyres ever

Polished silver finishing kit. Black powder coat may be cheaper for the manufacturers (which is why it's so prevalent), but it looks heavy and unfinished to me.

Padded Fred - banned again

😆 - I will miss him though, as his latest incarnation did seem to have calmed down a bit (though I get the impression from some comments that mods were just deleting whole postings of his, so maybe I missed the worst stuff).

Well I can guarantee that amber wall tyres are indeed coming back, I saw some shiny 2011 bikes today and they were all sporting them.

Other predictions include more real leather parts and alot more neon coloured parts.

Super skinny steel tubes will be back too.

robdob - talkemada was his latest incarnation.

I don't know why the mods have been so harsh on him. I have seen much worse from others on here although he does get a bit stroppy. The mods won't even tell him why he is banned now - and deleted post of his that contained nothing very much by all accounts - warned then banned with no further posting. NO braking of the rules this time that I saw.

I think he just upsets the cosy middle-class little englander ethos too much

I think its a shame - people like him stop this place being so bland and he was behaving better.

Other folk on here behave worse and get away with it - Ton with his alter ego bombadillo that he used to make xenophobic comments for one. Breaking lots of STW rules and not banned. He is not the only one.

Its a shame - and this post and perhaps my days are numberd

Well, I'm not particularly bothered about him being banned tbh (and I'll probably meet him soon, I think he knows my brother!!) but I think people are different on here than in real life. I have no idea why.

I think he just upsets the cosy middle-class little englander ethos too much

Really? you think that? How many incarnations have there been, and how many times has he been banned?

Other folk on here behave worse and get away with it

Yes they do, but no one behaves worse with such regularity. It was dull, predictable, and tedious

Salsa steel ahead stems. Mavic headsets and square taper bottom brackets (or, not to be backwards looking, lets change BB shell diameter so you can fit in bearings AND an axle).
And, bar ends. Climbing is part of mountain biking too.

But most of all, what needs to make a come back is natural, found, or self built trails. This trail centre malarky is WAY too dominant.

Oh, regarding your Fred bloke, he puts me off inhabiting this forum. That says something I think, he needs to go out on his bike more.

middle of the range bikes that are worth buying.
in my eyes youve got your £80-100 cheap taiwanese junk/everyday bikes, £150-300 gets you the same that looks better but is still pants and then you enter the market for something actually ridable for a beginner at £700-£800.Theres no middle of the road stuff..there used to be all differnet levels and all different build specs.

Ive still got 4 tyres left from around 1996, still use them for racing on the dryest dustiest courses (which as you say are few and far between)

You can still getthem in the US too - can be picked up for about $8...

can also get the regular XC tyres here:

http://www.bike-mailorder.de/shop/MTB/Reifen-Schlaeuche/IRC/Reifen-26-IRC-Mythos-XC-II-Kevlar-21-Rear::1982.html

best tyres ive ever used...

Splats.

Splats seemed to be everywhere at one point. Vinyl stick on splats for your car, flourescent pink and yellow splats on bike paintjobs.

And now they're gone.
