Shower of *s the *ing lot of them. What kind of arsehole would try to run a father towing his 4year old son who are riding along a cycle lane off the road? *ing no neck *. JVR property management van man your card is marked.
I think it's time for a revolution who's with me?
Or how do we go about the huge task of changing the attitudes of drivers in Edinburgh before many more people get needlessly killed.
I think that expecting them to pay attention to puny cyclists is pretty optimistic, seeing as they're getting increasingly incapable of paying attention to red lights. ๐
Similar here in Glasgow. Had a run in with a white van man 2 mornings in a row last week as he illegally undertook down the bus/cycle lane. Keeping a beady eye out for him and will report to the Police.
Pity is was a non marked, plain white van. Think the guy does not realise he is doing wrong, as it did it right past Maryhill Police station!
Not a bad rant. Sweeping generalistaions, asterisks, but sadly lacks random capitals.
You would be annoyed if a driver branded all cyclists as *s, so it's not really fair to brand other categories in the same way. Some people are *s. Some of those people driver cars, some ride bikes.
Anyway, this driver does sound like a right twonk. Worth a call to JVR property management? (Might not be worth it if the guy driving the van IS JVR property management).
It's a tough town to cycle round for sure - thought you'd be safe on a cycle lane though. I'm always having to avoid drivers swerving into bus lanes etc. I read a book recently that argued that car drivers are looking for other cars / buses etc, and psychological they do not expect to see bikes or motorbikes, so they are subconciously "blind" to them - hence pulling out in front of you despite making eye-contact. However, they could just be ignorant a*ssholes as you state.
I blame the driving instructors.
aracer - so do I. I have reported a number of instructors to the DSA for allowing their pupils to squeeze cyclists. I always taught folk that you leave enough space so that if the cyclist falls off sideways that you didnt run over their head. Seemed to work for my lot.
Centre of town always full of nutters. Ones who take umbrage to getting overtaken mostly. I'm up for a revolution though, can we attach weapons to the bikes Boudicca style?
Phone JVR property managers and have a good rant down the phone at them. Don't know if it does any good but I've done it twice before. Once for crap driving and once for littering. Punter on the end of the phone promised to have a word both times. Who knows if it did any good but why ignore it and rant on here? Preaching to the converted!
I think current practice is now to nudge them so that they fall away from your car.
I'm really suprised. When I've visited Edinburgh I've always been suprised by the tolerance of it's car drivers to cyclists, and to the things cyclists do (which they shouldn't) and get away with without even a beeped horn.
Round here seems much less cyclist friendly (Huddersfield area). When druidh visited here he was shocked at how bad drivers were towards bikes and when cynic-al was here doing the CVMBC year before last (I think) at least one rider was 'doored' by a car and stuff thrown at others which is pretty commonplace.
Dont worry I've had a good long rant at them down the phone. Doubt they will take any action though. So if people can just avoid using JVR property management than the loser might end up out of a job. If however someone decided to scatter some nails or screws around that van then that would be good also.
I don't find Edinburgh drivers that bad compared to other places I've been (London for example).
On the whole, I find drivers in Edinburgh pretty considerate. I think it helps that there is a fairly high proportion of cyclists, so awareness is better than it might be.
I tend to agree they are not too bad on the whole but the cycle haters amongst them are pretty awful.
I'm always amazed at Edinburgh drivers 'liberal' interpretation of traffic light signals. It seems there must be a local bye-law stating that a light which has gone from amber to red no longer means stop, but now means it's okay to carry on for at least another 10-15 seconds.

Neither the van drivers nor the police care. Had a white van driver almost kill me last week. 2 minutes earlier he'd been sitting at the traffic lights at the bottom of Pollokshaws Rd opposite the Brazen Head. He had got there by driving for a mile on a road that's closed to all but buses, taxis and cyclists.
Behind him at the lights was a police car, the occupants of which couldn't give a toss about mr white van man
A post-LeJog update...
25 of us, from all over the British Isles, agreed that the drivers in Scotland were much more patient, careful and friendly to cyclists than those in England, especially those in the South West. I'm sure that factors such as population density play into this somewhat.
Can we bump this thread in the winter time and tar all cyclists as muppets that ride in the dark dressed head to toe in black/navy blue/dark grey with one rear light which has had the same batteries in it for six years but no front light but still expect you to see them as they undertake against a backdrop of traffic headlights. And breath...
Would have to agree that the year I spent pedalling around Edinburgh was very pleasant compared to my North East England commutes. They just try to drive through you here - cyclists are so rare they just don't know how to deal with you ๐
I remember a trip to York, driving at rush hour - I was amazed at the critical mass of cyclists - all us drivers just had to play by their rules and drive at their speed. Brilliant ๐
oops
JVR had a rant from me. They sent out a mail to clients where all the other clients (50 or so), details were clearly visible. The irony was they were asking if people minded their details being passed to a third party. Also the wording was wrongly phrased in that they would pass the details on unless you opted out, not as I would have expected, opting in.

SBZ.. pm me if you would like to contact the JVR manager. I have details from the above ^^^^
I think it's time for a revolution who's with me?
I'm with you all the way sbr, we'll be the vanguard! I'm pretty sure Elfin will join in.
THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE MOTORISED!

Yeah I've noticed this in town, I hate it.
If you've ever been to Oxford or somewhere then you really see what a cycle friendly city is really like, compared to Edinburgh.
Nice rant, and I'm particularly impressed with the repeat JVR Property Management mentions - your Googlebomb has worked, it's on the first page ๐
I've never had a real problem with Edinburgh drivers, any issue is never malicious just stupid. Although that's not to say it's acceptable, but I don't feel victimised in any way.
It was never my intention to Googlebomb JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management JVR Property Management
Well JVR Property Management, like all businesses, should learn not to accept dangerous aggressive drivers, it obviously has a negative impact on their reputation. I know I for one will never employ their services now. ๐
Of course not. But if one less person uses JVR Property Management as a result, then job done...
or, you could write a comment here so non-STWers could read it:

with SBZ's reputation, how much of this is actually true:

I for one won't be using JVR PROPERTY MANAGEMENT, I can tell you that for nowt....
You should send JVR PROPERTY MANAGEMENT a link to this thread so they can see what people think of JVR PROPERTY MANAGEMENT
๐
Google bomb backfire alert Batman ! Now enough folk have clicked on your link to their site to bring them back up again...
if you google for "JVR PROPERTY MANAGEMENT", this thread will be on the bottom of first page. Well done! -))
Just to mention this once again, googlebomb worked fine for JVR PROPERTY MANAGEMENT
hehe )
actually I'm pretty sure google has a way of detecting overuse of a word in a page and placing it further down search results as an antispam measure?
