[#11856398]

Building some new wheels for a stooge dirtbomb..need new hubs and wondering what to go for. Normally use hope but been looking at dtswiss 350's and spank hubs which are both a little more expensive. Anyone had good/bad experience with these or any other recommendations? The dt240's hybrid hubs sound good but not sure I wanna spend that much.

For me it always, Hope or DT Swiss. Nothing that's less capable than Hope, but DT 240's if you flash with cash. DT350 can be converted to DT 240, if you really don't like Hope (TBH oem 1900's were great too).

Hope Pro 4 issues thread? Though that the first I've heard of this issue, & if they were that wide spread, it be everywhere. Someone does also mentioned a broke 350 on same the thread

Cheers, will have a read of that. Never had issue with hope really but never had dtswiss and heard good things about them(240s). Not much choice/stock of correct size anyway!

I'm sure Novatech and the like of superstar are fine too, but I know I can find the spares for Hope or DT Swiss, other not so easily, and especially if there a few years old.

Good shout re the superstar hubs. Might give them a go as this build is a spares bin build but already bought new rims and tyres!

You could also have a look at Bitex - probably a similar quality to Hope but a little cheaper. Better spares availability then novatec. I don’t know if it matters to you but both Bitex and DT are lighter than Hope Pro 4’s.

Yeah, been quite impressed with my Bitexes, haven't done a huge amount on them but they've worked well so far. Maybe not the best sealed though.

240/350 are just brilliant though. I mean, the reason I say "haven't done a huge amount" on my bitexes is that I'm used to thinking in DT terms now where my decade old 240s just get a bearing from time to time and still work exactly like new.

I have hope pro 4s on my surly. Perfect
I have dt 1900s on my ebike, also perfect.
I’m really heavy, go figure.
Dt maybe a little quieter.

Had Hope's. Went to dt swiss as oe on my intense.

When I built my new bike up and needed wheels it was 350s as my intense wheelset was faultless

I'd not go back either

I'm having the same thoughts.

Hope - my last set weren't reliable enough to justify the price really.

Novatec - they work, but they seem to eat bearings, might just be the bike I put them on though (CX).

I've got some ludicrously light powerway hubs on my road bike which are doing well, but it's a road bike, and those are my summer wheels.

Some more food for thought here..thanks. Weight ain't that important..only bike at moment is a steel surly fat bike. Funnily enough I've never had much trouble with wheel bearings but the fatty seems very hungry in that department including salsa and spesh hubs.Got enduro bearings fitted now and so far so good. Anyway that might put me off the cheaper brands. Shimano I like but can't find stock 110x15 142x12..Any ideas on were I can check? Ta.

I used to love DT Swiss, until I had to change the rear bearings... I'd probably not have another.

Just bought a Bitex hub to replace it, so we'll see what they are like.

I've just bought a Hope hub for a wheel build and I'm a bit concerned after reading the comments on them (not just here). Always used Shimano in the past and never had any unexpected issues in tens of thousands of miles. Couple of freehubs have failed but not without plenty of prior warning. Just normal wear and tear.

Hope are fine tbh, and very well supported. A bit overrated/overpriced IMO but that doesn't stop them being really good solid kit- I have DT in every bike that I can afford to put them in but I'm still very happy with my Hopes in the dh bike.
