Its looking like a contest between the Gravity Droppers and the Kindshock I7, anyone any experience of the GD's?

U31, yep, it'll be one of those 2. I've got a Gravity Dropper Turbo, have had for about a year, and it's completely and utterly totally awesomely awesome. Lightest on the market, rocksolid reliable, looks like it was made in a shed. Parts availability is good though you have to import so you pay a lot for shipping, but every bit is available to buy at reasonable prices and they're so simple to work on (to do the standard clean, you need precisely no tools, and you can do a complete strip and rebuild with a multitool).

Reliability's the key, I just serviced mine for the first time in a year, and it didn't need it much. Never missed a beat otherwise, other than snapping a bolt in the head clamp though that's a seatpost failure rather than a dropper failure if you see what I mean. ( I do think they're undersized, M5x45mm is a bit long and thin)

All that said, I wouldn't mind trying an i7, you hear good things and it seems like KS might have learned the lessons of the totally appalling early i900s.

Although not of a 27.2mm flavor CRC are selling of Crank brothers Joplin threes in both sizes of 30.9 and 31.6 for about 80 quid.

I'm also interested in reliability as I'm thinking of a gravity dropper for my coiler.

I just bit the bullet and got a gravity dropper classic, took it for it's maiden voyage at Inners last night

Initial impressions are that it works really well. I found I used the 1" drop setting alot on singletracky bits and the 4" drop a few times on the tracks with more drops

Unfortunatly I hadnt done the seatclamp up enough so still had to stop and faff with my seatpost 🙂

It's not pretty, but it doesn't look too bad on a black bike

I use the Rase 9" Black Mamba in 27.2mm flavour...

Linky thingy

Does the job and drops the seat right out of the way where it should be.

I own a Gd an a Joplin

GD
Pros
easy to service relaible as can be
Lifetime guarantee
parts expensive does develop play [ mine is 4 years old mind] and cannot be fixed
Either up or down

Joplin
Pros
Adjust to any height and much smoother action
Cons Labour intensive to keep working [relatively one service per year say] parts expensive

Personally prefer the action of the Joplin and the simplicity of the GD.
They are dear mind for what they are.
Jedi message me I can provide/lend a 30.9 joplin remote with new sleeve and guide block if you want to try one first.
