can anyone recommend some good grease for cup and cone bearings?

recently bought a specialized fuse with pf30 BB which is creaking - I read I should take the sealed bearings out and carefully push more grease into them)

also what size bearings for shimano cup & cone? and how many per wheel

cheers

PF30 used standard industrial cartridge bearings - so don't understand what you mean by cup and cone unless you're talking bike hubs?

I like silkolene rg2 (pretty red colour) or maxims (pretty blue colour) which are great for loose ball cup and cone or repacking cartridge bearings.

However, if your pf30 is creaking, it's more likely to be movement between the frame and cup or cup and bearing than a need for grease in the bearing.

I need to service loads of CX wheels (cup and cone)

also been advised to put more grease into the BB bearings (as they seem to have very little in them from the factory (huge thread on another mtb website about them)

+1 on creaking PF30 likely to be the bearing in the housing, rather than the bearings themselves - remove the cranks and see how the bearings feel, plus make sure the spindle is greased too. For CX hub use I'd look at tenacious, waterproof grease particularly if they're jet-washed e.g. marine grease.

I'm not saying don't repack the bearings, I always do, it's just that it's unlikely to cure a creaking pf30.

Personally, I wipe briefly with a greasy finger rather than lumping it on. One day, I'll want to take them back out.

Or do you mean the outside of the seals? I do if there's another seal or shield going over the top but not if they're directly exposed to the outside world as that just collects crap.
