[Closed] What Freeride / DH frame?

Are there any deals out there which I've missed or is my budget of about £1500 just too low for a new frame?

Anecdotes do not make science. It may be that intense riders are more gnarr than the rest of us and hence break their frames more often. Who knows.

Dans 160. Personally i think intense make some of the best looking dh/freeride frames around. But I wouldn't buy one, certainly not a FRO model. The poor workmanship and possibility of cracking (or terminal failure) might be hard to quantify, but it definitely hangs around Intense frames like a bad smell. There's no smoke without fire. And yes all/most other manufacturer's frames might crack at some point down the line but I've seen at least 2 Socom front ends go in person and more pictures / first hand reports of cracked 951's than I can remember.

As an intense owner (Im assuming you are), you're right to stick up for the brand, but taking £2.5k or whatever amount of money and spending it on a frame with such a high CHANCE of failure is a risky thing for anybody to do. I know having done exactly that with a Revolt.

You do not have any idea what the chance of failure is, as I said it may be that intense frames are bought by the massive air brigade and hence has an influence on their lifetime.

I'm not an intense owner, but I do abhor poor logic.

my mate broke his intense socom, but hasnt ever broken any of his other downhill frames.

another mate broke his m9 that was probably a year old, yet his specialized sx thats about 4 years old hasnt broken.

This is all scientific fact.

I recently tried a Torque Rockzone in Tignes. Outrageous value for money. Sadly there's no mediums left and having called Canyon, they said to keep an eye on the website from September when the new series goes online.

4 intenses have been riden at herts shore. 3 broke

lol. Toys 19...why don't you put your thesaurus down and tell us the rationale you would use when deciding how to spend lots of cash on a DH/Freeride specific frame? Please do tell, I'd like to hear some of your real world scientific examples!

And BTW, of-course you have some idea what the chance of failure is. That is why some intense bikes are marked FRO, they are manufactured for racing only and have paper thin tubing. That's why Summums were initially so light but are now a bit heavier because the tubing was denting around the fork stop impact zones. Trek Sessions as well, downttube dents galore and the list goes on. All great bikes by the way. But bikes designed for racing at the sharp end of the sport and not necessarily for being hucked and put in the back of uplift lorries with another 40 bikes resting against them. That's all Im saying. It takes a lot of balls to put your money where your mouth is and buy an expensive frame like that knowing there is a higher than average CHANCE of failure.

And there are plenty of frames out there manufactured specifically for strength and longevity rather than speed. The transition being one of them, I now own one for those reasons and hence why I recommended it in the 2nd post of this thread.

Anyway I'm sure you are right, there is an awful lot of anecdotal evidence that they are unreliable. I think tis why I didnt buy one...

I'm just in pedant mode as I'm home bored looking after quite literally poxy kids and there is no tdf to watch so I'm in the mood to argue black is white. In the face of such ovberwhelming "evidence" I'll naff off and find another thread..

But yes, transition are a company that make proper frames. There never seems to be many/any of them broken

not that i have anything agaisnt them and very little experience but isnt there another post today about what dh/freeride bike where the guy stated he'd broken 3 transition prestons?

As I said, I very much doubt that intense frames break any more or less than others. Because one broke or another was welded up badly it does mean every other frame they made/will make will suffer the same fate. Any frame worth riding ridden hard enough will probably break eventually. Mine is still in one piece and if it did go I'd buy another one. It's a joy to own and ride.

If I could afford it I'd have an M9 an heartbeat as well as my SS.

Considered one of these....KHS Lucky / Azonic B-52. I have a Roco WC Air on mine but ran a Van R coil up until a while ago....the thing is awesome.....7.3" travel. Might sell the frame if you're interested. (Its a large)

Quite a few folks seem to use Intense FRO models as everyday bikes then complain when they break. Just an observation likes, don't have a side on this one.
