what is the difference between Talas & Float?

DT Swiss 150's on mine - fantastic

TALAS= Travel Adjust Linear Air Spring ie you can lower it to 100, 120, 140
where as float are just 140 for example, both both can be locked out though

Id say 36 Talas, the head angle on 160mm is 66.9degs, bit harse for tight singletrack or steep uphills but on the money for going down ..

Why 36 and not 32? A 575 is quite a light bike.

I use a 32 float 140 RLC, think it is just right for it

I'm toying with getting a 575 and pairing it with a 32 Talas 150 but I am also a bit fed up of adjusting the travel on my pikes all the time so getting a float 140 and living with it might be a good idea 😀

I have a XT hub for a 20mm axle. Can I get an adapter to make it 15mm or will I need a new hub?

the 575 is like a goat up hills it really doesnt need playing with when you put a 32 float 140 RLC on it. Ive found it the perfect set up.

Talas are easier to adjust than Pikes.

van 32r - qr, relatively cheap - I got mine for £300, light,nice and simple, just fit and forget.

I could do with testing one out really. Anyone in south wales with a large 575 with talas forks that I can have a go on? 8)

I'd definitely go for the 15mm over the QR, makes a real difference IMO.

on my 575 ive had fox 32 talas, fox 36 vans and now pikes.
if i had the cash i would go for 36 floats or 36 talas.

Ive got an early 575 and use a 32mm tallas fork the 100mm settings great for climbing and fire roads and 120 mm does the trick for the rest , 140 setting is good for steep stuff . cheers

Two of the guys I ride with have 575's one has pike air u-turns and they feel great on it but the travel adjust is a real pain (he had 36 vans but felt they were too long) and the other has DT EXC150 20mm ta's which are real nice on it. I recon a set of 140 or 150mm fox 32's would be perfect for it but a 15mm axle might be a problem with your XT hub. Depends what/where you like to ride, we regularly ride the 7 stains but mostly Glentress red and black and inner XC. If you go for 36's and ride up a lot of hills do get the talas because 160mm travel is to much on the way up on a 575.

do you know if you can convert xt from 20mm to 15mm?

Whos_Daddy, I don't think you can. I know Hope do a 15mm adaptor but I can't see anything for XT

So its either 36's or 32's & a new wheel!!!! ARGH. I have only had this wheels made from Merlin 5 weeks ago!

Although Fox and Shimano jointly developed the 15QR I have never seen a shimano XT 20mm to 15mm converter. There are XT 15mm front hubs, the M758 and the M778. Time to get a Hope proII?

These are a much cheaper option than 36's or 15mm 32's and a new hub, will sit well on a 575 and they are tough as old boots if you can cope with the extra 30 seconds it takes to adjust the travel?

and the extra 1.5lbs in weight over the fox 32s..

Not on a 575 but I have just replaced Pikes with 36 Vans on my Pitch, and they are in a different league imo. Not found it a problem riding up hills either.

I ran Float RLC 140mm 15QR's on my 08 Yeti 575 and I never felt any need to lower the forks for climbing. Fabulous forks and make it a really nice ride and light too

I have Talas on my Orange 5 great fork for climbing up Wales
and great for descending.
I do use a us a zero rise stem has I dont like the feel of the 20 mm rise of the fork
when opened at 160

I run Lyrik u-turns on mine, and they're the business! I don't always run them full tilt though, depending on where i'm riding... The maxle revelations are an excellent match also!

Just put Van 36's on my Heckler and they are spot on.

I had Pace 41 fighters, and 36 Vans on mine when I had it - Vans were perfect, esp in the Alps!

Fo 32 140mm RLC's on mine - ride lovely - wouldn't mind trying some 6's on it though

I have 36 Talas on mine. They work really well.

Having said that 36 Vans of Floats are excellent if you don't mind the slight compromise when climbing.

Don't like air forks, so have 32 Vanillas on mine. Love it.

2010 Rev Teams 150mm (maxle)

There is only one option in my mind....

Fox 36 Talas.

Set at 130 for most stuff, then 160 for going down over rocks fast. They don't weigh that much more than some of the other forks mentioned here, and what you get back in return more than makes up for it.

And they are damn stiff too 🙂

I've got a set of 36 Talas on mine, which seem to work pretty well.

As Blackflag said, 130mm for most things and then 160mm for downhill.

I got a pair of 36 Talas when I owned one, and it transformed it from the 140mm 32 Float QR forks I'd had before.

But I was also going to suggest the 2010 Rev Team maxle lite, if it's anything like as good as the Reba Team it'll be terrific.
