What fork? 26" rigid, will take a beating, won't burst the bank...

Afternoon all,

Current (now retired) fork was a GT rigid fork, which after the latest round of trails and jumps has decided to increase wheelbase by some 40mm. A great shame, but considering their age and years of use I think it's fair to say their money's worth was had ๐Ÿ™‚

So, what to get to replace them? I've had a quick look and there are a huge amount of AliExpress items which I think may not last so well. And then there doesn't appear to be much at all now that the cycling world has moved on.

Anyone know of any others that would be suitable?

Cheers!

May be some tradeoff required between steerer dimensions, AC length, dropout type and axle length. Surly probably also worth a look.

I've had a couple of sets of Exotics, though they're trail forks not jump forks and it sounds like that's maybe what you need? But if you want an allrounder I'd try and find a set of the basic tube Exotics, they're great. Will take a beating in terms of the job they're designed for (I put them in a couple of hardcore hardtails and basically rode them as hard I was capable of, including a really ill advised enduro race and a ton of tweed valley nonsense , I think Scotroutes is still using them) but probably not in terms of casing a hundred jumps.

Came to say the same as Northwind. Mate of mine has had a couple of pairs and been very happy with them. Or go to Retrobike where someone will sell you something secondhand.

Yep. Another recommendation for Exotics. Fitted to a 26" Ibis Tranny years ago and still going strong.ย

Another eXotic fan here. Had the alloy crown/carbon tubes version on my SS for years - very solid.

Oops - no I didn't. Mine are Shimano PRO 445s - look pretty much identical to the eXotics.

I'll recommend what I've got on my bikes, Surly 1x1 or Kona P2. Both are rim brake only, but the P2 does ride really well & the 1x1 isn't too bad either.

Both are (were?) available in disc/vee format & +1 for the surly 1x1 fork

Surly, Kona, Identity, potentially On One.

Longer rigid 29er forks like the Pipedream Alice (430mm a-c or something) may also work.ย

Depends on the frame and what fork it originally came with. I'm running a 468mm AC P2 fork that's spot on for the two 26" frames I've used it on (I'm swapping it back over to a 2011 Rockhopper frame today having borked the 2010 Cannondale it's been on for the last 18 months).
