Anybody got one yet and do you know the weight?

Picked mine up on Saturday, very happy man with my choice. I managed to get the performance pack and rear maxle thrown in free. As for weight I have no idea, it weighs a bit less than I expected. Not very helpful I know but for what you get it's not too heavy.

I am however now officially overbiked and loving it

When I took the demo model back to Bike Scene they weighed the whole bike at 30.5lbs ish. I ordered one anyway but tweaked it somewhat, so it should be 28-29 or thereabouts. Dunno about the frame alone mind.
Don't care either as I'm about 2.5 stone overweight.

Surely if your going to be buying that kind of bike, you shouldn't give a damn what weight it is, after all, it's a 140mm travel frame ffs!

Just make sure you have a pro-pedal shock on but what shock doesn't have pro-pedal nowawdays.

I'd say if your asking questions like that, then your probably overbiked.

7.8lbs is 4.0lbs heavier than my 140mm (HT) frame..., seems rather a lot.

WIth damper, 7.8lbs could be right; if it's on the overly heavy side, it's probably not far off. You'd expect a frame like that to weight around the 2.8kg to 3.1kg mark without damper.

Not sure why the weight wouldn't matter though. The implication of the comment above is that 140mm is a lot of travel and therefore weight becomes less of an issue. Is that a troll?

Pretty much everyone in the press seems to be agreeing that 140mm is about right for an all purpose UK trail bike in which case you'd definitely want one eye on the weight and the other on the travel.

Just as much as your comments on here are.

Plus just bought a f.s. frame with 153mm or so travel and that must weigh 8lbs with shock. Who gives a s#it.
MTFU!

But in all serious, to the op, he's/she's probably just gauging what else it's comparing to on the market.

Still though, at this mid travel range, who cares! ๐Ÿ™„

There is some pish talked on here about weights. Last years stock five pro was 28.4 lb (

- if you don't believe me)

Frame weight is somewhere around 6.7 lb there or thereabouts with RP23.

I don't believe you. But I do beleive the park scales in my workshop which said 30.4lbs for an 18" five pro. New frame is a bit heavier again.

i just guessed by the way. no-one else seemed to be giving the OP an answer.

maybe we need a 'guess the weight' competition - STW you need to run a competition in the mag! it would have all the weight weenies creating spreadsheets and the like, but would manufacturers weights be accurate enough?? would weighing actual components make a difference?? who knows! the excitement would be immense

I only wanted a simple answer to a simple question is that too much to ask?
I used to have a 2006 5 but just wanted to find out if there had been any weight changes in the frame.
Thankyou to those of you who have supplied some useful information.

The July issue of MBR that had a feature on the 2011 5's has this to say "bringing the weight of a 2011 frame (without shock but including maxle rear end) to 2.923g. 6.44 lbs, no idea what the shock weighs.

Cheers

How can you say that, then quote a weight off the internet as gospel? I've never had a frame come in even vaguely close to the claimed weight.

i cant believe that no-one knows this, lappiere advertise their weights! and most other manufacuturs you can find on the interweb, but orange frames seem to be a mystery. does anyone know? I suspect they must be heavy ish (29-30lbs for a five pro?)

They weigh bike with and without pedals! Oranges generally are a bit heavier but who cares, they're built to last.

I can't think of many things I've bought for my MTB where the advertised weight was equal to the actual weight... but tbh that is also pretty much the same for most things unless its a legality.

Buy a bike you like, ride it. Does it really matter how heavy it is? Unless you're competing professionally and every second counts

All I know is that my '07 Five weighs less than an '11 Five* (when picked up side by side)

My pro spec Five is built reasonably light were as the '11 Five has a heavier frame due to tapered head tube, fatter tubing and the pro spec demo bike had slightly heavier components.

I think my bike weighs in at approx 27-28lbs so 30lbs makes sense. I can understand why people are interested in bike/frame weights but they all still need legs and lungs to make them go. So if the new Five is heavier you'll just need to improve your fitness and strength. Like most things, the body adapts accordingly.

I' sure the extra weight will be forgotten as soon as you scare yourself silly on the descents ๐Ÿ™‚

*By no means scientific proof ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh come now, don't be naive.

Not for frame only they don't, since they don't sell them that way. Zesty alu frame is pretty heavy IMO. So is Five.

If I were getting a 140mm bike I'd want it light as practically possible.

Orange frame weights do seem to be one of the great mysteries of the MTB world. Going off on a tangent, I wonder what a 5 in full carbon would be like, and if might actually be possible to make such a thing in this country.

They don't advertise them because they are a bit on the heavy side, so it would put some people off perhaps. However they are heavy because they are stiff, and the stiffness is what makes them great.

My whole bike is about 27lbs but it's a reasonably bling build. XTR (when it was not quite stupidly expensive), Hope, carbon bars and post etc.
