...the nut on the bottom of your fork leg just spins....

Got an old set of Vanilla 125rs - wanted to put some new seals on there but can't get the left (spring) side bolt off - it just spins the rod it's attached to. When I look down the inside I can see the thing turning.

Any solutions to this?

Cheers
Guy

compress the fork and undo the footnut/bolt with a quick snapping twist.

Is the spring still in? If not put it back in as it can help hold it in. Try power tools - air wrench or electric drill to spin the nut fast. Or wedge something down the fork leg to hold the other end - broom handle/ dowel

Is it an allen bolt head in the bottom of the inside of the leg? long extension with an allen bit on the end.

I have used all of these on motorcycle and bicycle forks

OK - I'll keep trying then. I don't think there's an allen bolt in there - a 6 is too small and an 8 is too big.

GW - presumably I'm compressing the fork with the spring in there to try and stop it spinning yeah? Some ingenious use of zip ties / toe clip straps might come in handy!
