I'm after a new ride, just wondered what do the taller (6ft 4 plus) stw memebers ride?
XL Singular Swift 29er
21" Lynskey Ridgeline 29er. Awesome bike.
On One Scandal 29er
Niner Air 9
imo bigger folk suit 29ers, they're not for everybody I know 🙄
all depends on what sort of riding do as well tbh
a lot round these parts don't like 'em but a lot do
certainly worth a go if you can try one in your size
20" Kona Lavadome and 21" Giant Trance
Both with proper size wheels 🙂
6'5" here
XL Spesh '04 Enduro Pro
21"(?) Old Marin Rocky Ridge work / hack bike
6'6" here
07 Large Giant reign X (60mm stem) Highly recommended!
09 22" TT Dialled Bikes MX20
6'5'' here aswell, but I get by on just a large size '04 Sworks Enduro. Do have a telescopic seatpost for it though
6'5" and i ride
XL Singular Swift 29er
Viper 29er
& hopefully a Mythic Banshee XL soon
Wouldn't go back to riding a 26" wheeled bike as i feel more stable on a 29er 😉
6'7"
OnOne ScandAL XL
Turner Sultan XXL
Trek 7.6FX 24.5"
All with the correct man-size wheels attached.
6'5" - XL 2008 Commencal Meta 5.5
- 22" Giant Xtc

Scott Genius 20"
Trek 9.9 21"
Orange Crush 19"
6'5"
23" Spech Rockhopper (Gate)
Large Yeti Kokopelli (but its a tad small)
Fancy a 29er but would need to shift one of these first...
6'7", all arms and legs.....
MTB
23" Spesh Rockhopper 29er
22" Salsa Big Mama 29er
21" On One Inbred 29er (singlespeed to be built this weekend)
Other
25" Hub Geared Hybrid
63cm Road Bike
21" Roadified Spesh Hardrock (26" wheels) Ex commuter
22" Kona Hoss Singlespeed (26" wheels)
22" 69ered Hack bike for the supermarket run.
25" Ancient road bike sat in the shed. c.1986 - Dawes Scorpio
Definite convert to the 29er thing. All people 6'4" and above should at least try one before they buy a 26" bike. Most tallies like them but some still prefer the 26" thing.
6' 7" tall. 20" Patriot/20 inch Inbred/'Long' Maxmax (looks like a BMX under me 🙂 ) All 26" wheels.
I was considering getting a new (well, 2nd hand) hardtail. Hadn't really considered big wheels until now. In my head 29ers are good on the rolling singletrack and that, but are they up to much on techy trails, stuff like lakeland passes? Also, would they be a lot harder to carry than a 26er do you guys think? Sorry for the Hijack btw...
freaks !
Keva - just put some heels on and you can be just like us! 😉
Lots of ideas, thank people.
No interest here yetidave i'm afraid, but worth ago 😉
How do the Orange owners find there full sussers? Still deciding if I should take the step into the realms of rear suspension. Was thinking maybe a five or a Heckler. Was also considering a Meta 5.5, how does yours fit you sheffield43?
if these are 1st generation scandal 29ers we are talking about and you decide to sell at any point...
lunis46@yahoo.com
warm regards, tom
keva's jealous I reckon
6' 4"
Banshee Paradox L
Jones
Like many of the above it's several years since I rode a 26" wheeled bike
Only 6'2" (but long legs and arms), On One 456Ti 20"
6'5"
19" Rocky Mountain Element (frame too small really but a great bike and it was silly cheap)
20" Kona Kilauea (95)
20" Inbred
All with proper 'not trying too hard' 26" wheels 😉 for the simple reason that for my riding I much prefer the feel of the bike. Still on the lookout for a 29er I like though so hoping to have a go on a few at SSEC.
And I still don't understand why (other than for purely cosmetic proportional reasons) people think that a 29er wheel is any better for a tall rider. 29er riders seem at pains to point out that the contact points are all the same and that the wheelbase isn't longer to any great extent so if a 29er is supposedly superior for tall riders, why aren't you queing up for 32ers and even 36ers?
6ft 2"
20" old rigid inbred
20" 456.
Although going to try a 29er in the near future as i think they may suit me.
6'3"
19.5" dialled albert
used to ride 20" patriot 66 but it handled like a supertanker
also bmx and trek 8500 in 19.5"
and a 7'6" mini mal 😛
6'6" with long legs.
XL Ibis Mojo - both trail bikes have long seatposts
XL Commencal Meta
21" Stumpjumper HT - bigger than the other 2, gets used for commuting/road rides too
I'm yet to try a 29er properly, but very keen to replace the Stumpy with one this year I think ('03 Stumpy). Curiously I tried a Niner hardtail at Bikeradar's demo day last year, it was fairly muddy and the tyres* seemed VERY keen to fire out sideways. Since then I've not really given it much of a chance. There's one little rocky loose climb on the trail which I must say was easier on that bike than anything else I've ridden though!
* WTB Wolverine 29 if I recall correctly, racing tyres which seem equally fast sideways as they were forwards.
I had two customers who were both 6' 10". One chose a Ventana El Capitan and the other an El Rey.
6'2" with long arms and legs
20" Kona Stinky Deelux (98 vintage) with a 80mm stem, 26" wheels.
6'3" freaky bent long arms
20" Karate Monkey
62cm Major Jake
61cm Langster
and bizarly enough, a 20" wheeled Dahon Mu Uno, with longer seat post!
One of these?
I'm roughly 6'3" or 6'4". I ride an XL (21") Santa Cruz Chameleon, a 20" Orange 5 and a 20" (L?) Giant Anthem.
6'6 ride an XL chameleon.....sweet fit.
also a 19" voodo wanga ss
and a xxl kona stinky
6ft6"
XL Heckler
21" 1997 P7
19" 2010 P7 - I'm a convert to smaller frames after taking the advice of my LBS. Most of my riding is around 2-3 hour mark though, so hardly any all day epics. Makes the Heckler feel like a long, slow boat.
6'4" of mostly legs
21" Orange P7
I would like to try a 29er but i'm afraid i'll like them and i can't afford a new bike at the moment!
6ft4'' ( a bear of a man)..ask Brant.
xl ventana el capitan
21'' fisher cobia
both with mansize wheels. 8)
I'm 6ft 4 and I'm thinking steel hardtail (only need a frame)
Orange P7, Genesis Altitude 30 frame or Sanderson Life? Any ideas/reviews etc??
im 6ft 7
xl santa cruz bullit with lay back seat post
20" giant reign
Had a 20" orange patriot which was perfect but now for sale frame only, £350
6'3"
19" turner 5 spot
19.5" kinesis maxlight
60cm Airborne Carpe Diem
I tend to err on the smaller side for mtb frames. Anything over 20" feels like a gate
6'5" recently gone from xl stumpy fsr to 20" orange 5 and loving it 😀
6'3" and on a 19.5" Cannondale Jekyll, a 20.5" Rocky Mountain Vertex RSL and a 21" Rocky Mountain Hammer. Much prefer the fit of the RM's but have recently put a new fork with longer steerer on the 'dale to give the same bar height.
Sanderson Life looks good and is well finished .The Genesis has rack mounts both are long in the top tube .The p7 is a bit heavy .My choice would be the Genesis .Although at 6ft 4 of leg I find 20inch frames barely big enough even with a 400mm seatpost
6'3"
19.5" Hustler
20" ti456
20" Inbred
I'm amazed at how many tall chaps are on here, particularly in the 6'5"+ category.
I'd ride a smaller frame if possible because they are far more chuckable but with a 39/40" inside leg and nigh on 7' arm span i just get the biggest possible. They may all ride like gates but then that's all i've ever known so i wouldn't know any better. I tend to keep up with most of the people i ride with so they can't be that bad.
We should all have a big lads ride out one day, it'd scare the sh1t out of people to see a hoard of giants pedalling towards them!!
@MrTall I reckon you could just have a 'big lads' ride with the Singletrack world members from Worcestershire!
(wait for me to get/finish my bike though) 😉
