[#264319]

Just been gifted an old XCR 4000 frame. Great condition, been sat in my Dads cellar for years. I drive is smooth.

What do these ride like?

I'm planning on buying a new ~5" travel frame at some point in the future (hemlock possibly).

But seeing as this was free, I'm seriously considering a quick lash up in powder coat, swapping the Vanilla out for a modern air shock, and building it up with the modern parts from my Dialled alpine.

Not expecting the world, but what do you reckon?

Can anyone confirm - about 120mm travel?

i had the first xcr1000 and it was gash, fairly good downhill, but the ups and flats were so bouncy, it put me off full sus for years

What shocks were you running?

I'd be swapping out for a more modern air shock, probably a float or an old swinger 3 way.

I had one, it didn't bounce at all, in fact it climbed really well.

I assume you mean one like this (this isn't mine):

Just like that. I work in a bike shop, I've got all the tools, and all the bits, I may aswell give it a try!

i bought one for very little money (with the big eccentric bottom bracket), cos it had a chris king headset and some other pimpy bits....

it was very very heavy, and it was awful, bobbed around ridiculously.
