[Closed] what do i need to go tubeless ?

Tyres - I believe on Stans they dont have to be tubeless specific. A bit of tape, a bit of sealant and pump hard and that should be that.

Thanks, read that luddite one, which is really helpful. Wondering what I need to buy to set up crests ? Tape, which one ? And valve and sealant ?

washing up liquid, tape, sealant, valve + co2 or some other method of getting air in the tyre rapidly to seat it on the rim. You then let this out, pop the sealant in via the valve and reinflate using a track pump.

Pro-tip: Don't get your thumb trapped under the tyre bead when trying to get it on the rim

Thanks George. Was hoping to use a pair of 2.3 Rampages but may go nobby nics. Will track pump seat them ?

Superstar do valves for £7 (pair), and tape for £7. Get some stans fluid too.

I do mine with a regular track pump, and never bothered with washing up liquid.
It's easier than you think- but apparently some tyres work better than others.

gaffer tape is adequate/good, there is a decent article on it on pinkbike,
thorny punctures will become a thing of the past..

If you take out the valve core you can pump them up quicker. Once they are seated pull the tyre off in one place and pour in a bit of sealant. Turn the tyre around and re-seat it and put the valve core back. Then pump up again.

Just set my wheels up tubeless using nobby nics evo so easy just used gaffer tape,superstar valves and stans sealant.Pumped up using a track pump only takes 45 mins for both wheels,was going to pay lbs to do it but looked at guides on here.

never needed patience, just as easy as replacing a tube IME.

From experience, Panaracer tyres do not work well tubeless.
Try them before giving up or buying others though.
Bontrager XR4 TLR have a very similar tread pattern.

It has ben one of the best things I have ever done...no longer get rear pinch flats which were the bane of my life at Coed Y Brenin.

My Hans Dampf and Specialised tyres easily blow up with a track pump.

Only downside I've noticed is that the stan's kit makes it really hard to take tyres off, as there's less leverage due to the added strip in the centre of the wheels. Might just be my DT Swiss wheels though?

As far as the juice goes - Doc Blue from Schwalbe is made by Stans and is cheaper. £15 for a 1L bottle and each tyre is a 60ml fill.

i dislike the stans kits, the rubber strip sometimes unseats itself when you change tyres, tape is far better and cheaper too imo

I think someone may have to write a book on this, would make a fortune!

Don't use the kit if it involves rubber strips. Crest rims are designed to use just a thin layer of the yellow sealing tape. Using the rubb e r strip makes the tyre seating fit tighter, which you don't want.
The justridingalong has lots of good info. It sounds like you're not the sort of rider to trash tyres through thrashing down rocks. Go with standard maxxis, schwalbe tyres or the tubeless ready ones from specialized or bontrager. It's really not difficult - should have bought my wheels and I'd have set them up for you 😉

Full Stan's kits are for non-tubeless rims.

For your Crests, that's all you need above. You can buy fluid, valves and tape separately, but it'll cost more.

George, many thanks, will get the CRC one. So have I got this right - hope factory wheels will not have yellow tape, so I remove the tape, fit the yellow stuff as per stans video, put tyre on and inflate hopefully with track pump to seal bead, delflate, remove core, squirt the fluid in through valve, inflate to 30 psi, shake it about and all good ?

Just done Mavic XM719's 2 laps of stans yellow tape, valve and Ardent EXO tyre. Just done the recent one with a track pump - valve core out and pump hard. Soapy water spray.
Added some Jo's fluid after it had seated.
Worked fine

remove the tape, fit the yellow stuff as per stans video, put tyre on and [b]remove core[/b] inflate hopefully with track pump to seal bead, delflate, squirt the fluid in through valve, inflate to 30 psi,put core back in shake it about and all good

that order is besterist.
