Morning all

I'm looking for a waterproof commuting jacket, needs to be as cheap as poss whilst breathable and robust. What's out there? Any good deals at the mo?

I've an Endura Lazer. It's orange rather than "Cyclist Green", which I prefer. Minimal features, other than a rear zipped pocket. Plenty of reflective stuff. Never leaked yet and, provided I have the right layers* underneath, never gets too sweaty even with a rucsac. I've commuted with it pretty much every day since the summer.

*Cotton work shirt plus either an Aldi merino jumper or a cheap fleece jumper. If it's really tipping it down, the shirt goes in my bag and gets replaced with a merino base layer.

Not the cheapest but the brightest I've found is the Edura Luminite. It has an LED strip in the tail and lots of reflective stuff. I was wearing mine when I fell and slid on the tarmac for 20m, it has a small (20mm) tear and protected my arms well.

Bit sweaty though if you ride fast.

I've been using a hivis Altura Nightvision since last summer for daily commuting and can totally recommend it.

I use a Polaris orange dayglo jobbie from Halfords which claims to be breathable. It's not too bad for commuting though and only cost 20-30 quid

I've got an altura cropton - it's not properly waterproof, but good enough for showers - keeps the wind off, actually breathable*, packs down tiny and dead cheap. Don't really bother with a waterproof since I fitted mudguards.

Joe

*anything waterproof (including expensive ones) always seems to be breathable only when you're not putting any effort in / sweating.

primark are doing luminous yellow waterproof (ithink) shell jackets
for a bout 14 quid? Probably not very breathable though.

Altura nevis is serving me well. In fact its the only jacket I have so see's a fair bit of action. Doesnt get too sweaty but I've never owned anything in Goretex or E'vent so cant compare.
