Looking to build up a 2nd bike which will get little use (left at GF's) it a budget, but don't want it to ride like a pig. CRC have a number of tyres around half price £10-15. Ultrasport IIs(180tpi ?gm), Epsilons (66tpi 220gm) and Michelin Lithion 3 (3x60tpi? 210gm) Lifeline Prime (120tpi 219gm)

Any obvious winners/turkeys/alternatives?

The folding Ultra Sports did pretty well for a budget tyre at www.bicyclerollingresistance.com iirc.

I have been impressed by the few different wiggle lifeline tyres I'm using

I’ve got Lithium 2’s on my road bike and they’ve been ok. Few punctures but no more than any other tyre I’ve had. Used them since the end of the summer, all through the winter and they’ve always felt like the grip is ok. I’ve mostly fast commuted on them rather than big long rides if that makes any difference.

Why don't you consider an excellent set of tyres, at only half the cost that they would normally be? Say, like a set of Veloflex Masters? 😉

Good advice, scaredypants, but I'm please to say that they arrived first thing this morning! 🙂

I have been happy with the Lifeline Prime tyres off Wiggle.

Saxonrider - 2nd hand road tyres - with a few hundred k on them??? Tell me you were having a private joke trying to sell them!!

Durano's are fantastic, pretty puncture resistant and very cheap. They also last for ages which may be the clincher (see what I did there?) for you. I have over 5k miles on a pair of 28's and they look like they've plenty left. They do come up slightly fat so 25's are near 27 and the 28's near 30. For road, you might like the 23's which will presumably be around 25 putting you at the vanguard of road fashion. Get you 😁

I'd have to say that I've had very mixed experiences with cheap tyres, and just come to accept that pricey tyres are worth the cost to avoid the hassle (of discovering you've bought something made of hard plastic or tissue paper or a combination of the two which you just have to replace).

Lithium's or the Lifeline tyres from that list, either would do the job.

Have Lifeline Prime as my summer commuter tyres.  Very impressed with them.

These:

https://www.sigmasports.com/item/Specialized/Espoir-Elite-Clincher-Tyre-700c/1BDI?utm_source=google&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=base&co=GBR&cu=GBP&glCountry=GB&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_JPd5rTX2QIVCgDTCh11OQ_xEAQYCCABEgLAyfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

They came on my Roubaix and were immediately replaced with some Turbos. Now fitted to my winter Ridley where they’ve stayed all winter. No issues at all and I’ve had 1 puncture (sod’s law says I’ll get a puncture today now!).
