Hi all, first post so go easy.
In the market for a new bike but a bit undecided what to get.
Firstly I live in Hertfordshire, my local trails are pretty good, although pretty flat, a few jumps/dh sections etc. My riding is ok, I get over most things, sometimes with luck more than judgement so the bike sometimes takes a few hits! I do a few trips every months to bike parks with more aggressive riding, and plan to go over to wales/Peak District/Scotland etc a few times a year. I like to ride back up to the top where possible, but really enjoy coming back down, without having to ride around most things!
Now, the bike part, I’m looking at a few and am a bit undecided. The LBS stocks giant, and I like the look of the trance, I’m just not sure if it is built to go over 6 feet drops and small-medium jumps, say up to 10/15 feet gaps.
The other option is the reign, but I don’t know if it’ll be too much bike for my local riding, I’d still like a bike I can take on the odd XC ride every now and again. I was also looking at a Nukeproof mega, but again don’t know if I’ll be overbiked. I’d prefer to stick with the lbs rather than buy blindly online, but am open to suggestions.
Ideally I’d buy more than one bike for the different riding I do, but I have mrs so will say no more! I suppose I’m looking for the one bike I can do everything on, from the Xc rides to the weekend trips to bike parks in Wales.
Thanks for any advice, and any experience anyone can share with these bikes.

Fanboi content alert - lets see if this shakes things up!
Jeffsy 29er - nice to pedal, fun to ride. Sorry for your LBS - but use them for servicing to get back in their good books.
Fanboi content alert too 🙂
Every has their opinion but in my opinion the closest thing to an all round bike, at least for the stuff you describe, would be a 29er with around 130-140 rear, 140-150 fork. Lots of brands do them (eg. Jeffsy, Hightower, stumpjumper, the ones from cotic, trek, transtition etc.)
Ignore all the in jokes. Trance sounds like a good option. Not as trendy as some but a great all rounder and plenty strong enough to handle a bit of abuse.
Hi kboyen,
The fanboi bit was aimed at myself not you. I agree with roverpig the trance is a good option and as timmys said their are plenty of options to look at. I put the Cotic link up to give you a next step in your search (biased to my preference). Definitely support your lbs, my closest is now 25 minutes drive.
Haha no worries, I read it that way anyway. Thanks for all the input. I’m a bit of a newbie, although did a lot of riding in my younger days. I’m in no massive rush so keeping my options open. Also been looking at the trek remedy 2018s. Hard to find any decent reviews on them though.
