Need to replace the security chain for my bikes for insurance purposes.
Needs to be sold secure gold whatever that is.
Was thinking of a 16mm 2 metre chain and a squire SS65cs padlock £164
http://www.saundersonsecurity.co.uk/acatalog/Squire_EX_Caliber_SS65_Chain_2.0m_PJB748.html

Its to go round 2 bikes.
Anything else worth looking at better than this?

Have a look at pragmasis

I bought this a few weeks ago and its an absolute monster.

Or this from Almax

I have a 16mm chain from pragmasis and its almost too big and heavy. If I bought it again I would go for a 13mm chain as its about half the weight (and it's still sold secure gold for bikes).

Having said that, our garage got broken into a while ago and I believe it saved my bikes (there had been lots of targeted bike thefts locally - with just the high value bikes nicked and the cheap ones left). In my case the high value bikes were locked up with the 16mm chain to a ground anchor and nothing got nicked.

Too big and too heavy for what? My 19mm pragmasis chain is manageable.

Ive got an Almax Immobiliser Series IV Uber + Squire SS65CS Lock its a beast. I used it for the motor bike but dont use it anymore as sold it and keep cycles indoor. Its very good. Must remember to sell it lol

I have several Almax series IV, the 2.0m one is heavy beyond words... that said, the 1.5m isn't much lighter.

Almax chain is very good, used with a ground anchor for my motorbike in the garage

Use something more basic for my bike, but its in a locked and alarmed garage

Gary M - I just mean that I think I'd find a lighter chain easier to thread round multiple bikes. I find the 16mm chain quite big and cumbersome (I probably just need to man up!).

The 19mm chain must be huge!

Just looking at the weights:

19mm: 6.3kg / m
16mm: 4.5 kg / m
13mm: 2.9kg / m

have a look at the masterlock python, really good brand and a great lightweight cable lock.

Think chain for ships anchor and you'd be close 🙂

I wouldn't call whats in the link above a high security locking device!

I think it depends if you just want to tick boxes for insurance or keep your bikes.

I'm fortunate I can keep mine on the house, I have a Fahgeddaboutit used Sheldon style plus 12mm cable for wind proofing on the bike staple at work though. Don't think I'd consider these a safe solution in a garage full of tools overnight though.

I'm in Ayrshire, let me know the size. I think I need a 2m one. Hermes postage is just under £12 for 10-15kg with £100 insurance.

If you do get a pragmasis, I can recommend the 'noose' option. It really frees up a lot of chain.
