[Closed] What are like SSC hubs but not SSC hubs?

[#3861992]

I'm after a set of hubs. The SSC switch ones look OK at £80 for f+r but some of the reviews of the rears seem to suggest that the freehub bodies are prone to breaking.

So, any suggestions on similar priced alternatives?

Octopron optional.

For a little more I went for a2z of recommendations from here. 6 months xc racing on them no issue. I,ve heard good things about circus monkey hubs (check eBay)

I've got circus monkeys and they do seem decent but they're about 50% more as are a2zs unless you.know different.

Yes they are a bit more, think I paid about £115. Lower range shimano can be had pretty cheap, I have a set of lx hubs that have been faultless.

My one complaint with a2z hubs (not built them yet so can't comment on longevity) is the freehub seems to have even less clicks in it than Shimano! So if you're used to something with instant engagement it might feel a bit rachety. The lack of a solid axle upfront is a bit off putting too, but it's for the Swift so the fork should be stiff enough, but something to bear in mind if you were planning on putting them in long travel or 29er QR forks.

They're actually for my disc'd CX bike so no worries there 🙂

Nukeproof? Been using one of their Generator hubs for a while which seems pretty good. Has a pleasant click to it...

Superstar hubs are made by a company called novatec (joytech) You can get the hubs on ebay for about £40 a pair but they are shipped in from china.

Halo Spin Doctor? Or XC 6 Drive? They do a myriad of hubs these days.

Don't write off ball bearing hubs if you are prepared to service them.

My folks have got campag ones older than me that still run!

+1 garage doctor.
shimano hubs will run for ages as long as they have grease in them.
my personal experience would say grease em up when you first get em, they have a tendency to not have much in there straight from the factory.

Aren't the SSC hubs just re-badged novatec jobbies?
