Aimed to do 50-60 road miles this morning. Set off in heavy rain and it got heavier!
My Endura stealth breached, my seal skinz gloves were shite at best, my hands were so cold i could barely grip the bars, and to cap it all the bar tape was so wet and waterlogged it unwrapped off the bars!
First ride EVER where i have quit and got picked up 10km short of home - the shame!
This is why we have turbos
I'm past going out in all conditions, life is too short!
Cue "what waterproof?", "what bar tape?" and "what glove?" threads? ๐
Cue "what waterproof?", [s]"what bar tape?"[/s] "how do I properly wrap bar tape" and "what glove?" threads? I've never had bar tape unwrap - regardless of how wet it got.
How do you know he wrapped the bars, druid?
it was from the factory druidh so bollocks to you ๐
Probably unwound it with his death grip
Im so ****ed off with this wet weather seems like its been raining since May, I can deal with the cold but this sucks, Im off to the atacama desert ๐
biblical here in plymouth...still going out at 2pm though...muddy sideways fun!
22 of us turned up for our annual breakfast run. It was epic, soaked from head to toe and a grin from ear to ear. ๐

I didn't say he did. I'm assuming he'll want to learn to do it himself.

Indeed. In all my years of cycling I have never done this. I just make sure I ride only on nice days!
Actually, I got a puncture on the Fred Whitton a few years ago and nearly gave up. Couldnt change gear that day, my hands were so cold.
A cursory glance out of the window in Southampton this morning confirmed there is not a cat in hells chance of me going out in this.
Turbo this morning & some squash training this afternoon. Might go out tomorrow if the weather is as it's meant to be...
So this is the apocalypse.
It's weather like this when I turn to the mtb rather than the road bike... Stay much warmer. You're gonna get wet & grimy anyway, so might as well get muddy too.
Days like these are why pubs were invented.I was going mountainbiking at rivi today but it's so dire I'm going the pub instead.Out on the roadbike tomorrow burning off a hangover!
least yer went out Rob where as i pussied out of it,
to be fair ive worked in it all week so just fed up of being wet
It's days like these, I'm glad I can run as well as ride!
i resorted to a run *shakes head*
I'll be running in a bit!
Road ride tomorrow morning tho'.
I rode home from work Wednesday which left me no choice but cycling back on Thursday, which was the most unpleasant 90 minutes I can remember having on a bike. Torrential rain, feet soaked despite sealskins and goretex boots, had to take the mountain bike with useless mudguards and a slow puncture cos the road bike gears are up the creek. It was so bad I briefly thought that getting knocked off and finding myself in a nice warm hospital would be preferable! Slicks on the mountain bike and a session on the rollers for me tonight.
Well done for doing 10k more than I managed. I didn't see another cycling soul when I was out. Remember that we were fulfilling rule 9.
Understand your pain, however it's what makes you a man.
Don't quit.
I had a pretty 'mission-type' ride in the Peaks on Thursday in the pissing rain. No 'hoppy-poppy' descents for me - just making sure I didn't bin it on my own. I saw one group of walkers and some blokes working on an irrigation channel and that was it.
It was still a good ride, though. Better than Xmas shopping, better than work, better than just sitting on the sofa.
So this is the apocalypse
yep, death from boredom, mince pies and port.
could be worse I suppose
TWO people turned up for the club ride at 9 AM (usual turnout is about 50). I was not one of them. I have however raced (badly) at Hillingdon this afternoon.
To be honest I was hoping for MORE and HEAVIER rain this afternoon to thin the field. It's the only way I'll get any points ๐
Double post
I've never seen so few people at the Chase, not even on week days!
I saw 2 other bikes over 50km, both on one car!
I am staying in Cambridge with the outlaws away from oz and I been amazed at the people riding on the road today with the rain that it is. I can only put this down to being stir crazy sitting around the house, I can remember after our baby was born happily setting off into a rain storm as a break from the house.
well that was wet! only did cycle path stuff and a tiny bit of well pathed cheeky (dewerstone area) then home, only 15miles but time was short, had good fun and the rivers were very impressive in their swollen state...enjoyed it..
Did the Christmas shop at 8am in horrific rain which turned biblical rain. Missus went running so I settled down to play Star Wars on ps3 all day. It's been ace. Had to turn it off as I was beginning to believe I am a Jedi!
I was against going out, but after only a soaking 8 mile ride on the new CX come winter bike I'm glad I went!
Turbo trainer for me this afternoon followed by a nice shower and a brew.
I was out with some of the local lads around Strathaven hitting a couple of the trig points, just for fun. It wasn't that wet up here. We were lucky I guess.
Turbo trainers are for sissies. I'm going ripping it round the quantocks tomorow. Any real men -or women ๐ - are welcome to join in the fun
Good effort 40 + miles done, more than most today.Same conditions up in Lakes yesterday met mate at 8-30 out for 5 hrs 75 miles soaked to the skin, just got on with it and got it done ,its in the lung and leg bank now, if I hadn't been meeting mate then I would have found all sorts of excuses ,that is the secret for me and I've always told myself u only get wet once!!! Keep going and your spring rides will be better for it!!!
