I am looking for a dropper type seatpost for my felt compulsion. I currently use a layback 400mm thompson 30.9. I use the full length available on this post as I have v.long legs.
I need a post with layback, at least 400mm long and no play in the internals. They cost lots so I need to get the right one.
Any suggestions/reccommendations?
Been told the Gravity one is the best, they do two versions.
One with a push button on the post to adjust
and the other as the handle bar adjuster.
There are others but with reliability issues
I'd hold fire and see what sort of feedback the redesigned Crank Bros post gets. They're supposed to have improved sealing etc, but given Crank Bros ability to churn out shonk, I wouldn't hold my breath.
i have a gravity dropper and was well impressed with it during the summer.
now we are into muddy autumn/weather it is not performing as well as it should and sticking in places and playing up. it is regularly cleaned and lube so not sure whats wrong with it.
purerace I900's are good. But teh new Joplin is meant to have much better seals.
Joplins are pretty good in the US but thats mainly due to the conditions as teh seals don't get as hammered as they do in the UK. the purerace has much better seals and if you look after it will be fine.
Also if your riding in deepest darkest winter just put a fork cover on it.
I've got an i900 and it's great when it works but it's pretty temperamental. The clamp on it is uttery rubbish too, and it's developed quite a bit of play.
I have a speedball a cobra i900 and a gravity dropper
the speedball is crap and is somewhere in the world being repaired .... (its got 25mm setback) ๐
the cobra i900 is good and I've had no problems with it (yet)... (its got 25mm setback) ๐
the Gravity Dropper is good and is easily repairable at home if it goes wrong (its not set back) 8)
i had a nightmare with my gravity dropper, would'nt come up at times, kept dropping for no reason
When I was in France in the group I was with I think we had every type except that Black Mamba thing, and everyone of us had considerable problems with them.

Try slackening off the top collar by 1/4 turn or so (it's under the rubber boot).

If it's dropping unexpectedly, then the retaining pin isn't seating properly. Try cleaning it out and applying a little light lube. This might also affect the pin withdrawal sequence, although you might also want to try loosening off the top collar 1/4 turn (as described above). The other thing you might want to look at is the cable. Just like a standard gear cable (which it is), this can benefit from an occasional change.
The Gravity Dropper is ludicrously simple inside, so easy enough for a bit of user fettling. Having said that, I've only re-lubed mine twice in 4 years.
