started the weekend with a nice 15 mile beer pootle around cockermouth.
the castle is one fine boozer, thanks for the tip.

54 mile roadride on saturday, taking in lorton, buttermere, honister, keswick, threlkeld, mungrisedale, hesketh market boozer for a few pot. and back to the star in bassenthwaite for a few more.

and finished of today with a mtb ride over whitewater dash, lonscale terrace, brundholme, back up past skiddaw hause and back down whitewater dash.

what a fantastic weekends riding and supping a few...... 8)

Sounds utterly fantastic. Stayed in bassenthwaite for some biking earlier in the year, would love to get back up to the lakes.

back to the star in bassenthwaite

It's The Sun - or that's what the sign reads without beer goggles.... 😉 - what was it like? Changed hands I think and shut us out last time we went (mind Man U were losing in the Champs League, so maybe sulking).
Glad you changed the plan to ride off Great Sca Fell - not the conditions for that at the moment - bet Lonscale Terrace was a blast though. Hope you didn't get heckled by Brownies as you passed the Blencathra Centre - our 'little darling' was on day release.....

Cumbria - making Yorkshire unnecessary since 1972.

lol...i had beer googles on from 4pm friday until 8 this morning.

the pub was ok, bassenthwaite beauty was nice, but the food was pretty poor and pricey.
called in the pub at mungrisedale yesterday, that was nice, then the pub in hesketh, which was ace, then the oddfellows at caldbeck which was nice too, then we rode over the fells to uldale and the pub was shut.
it was a hard slog in the wind and rain.

I believe the current owners of the Sun Inn are trying hard to change the reputation of the pub after the last owners ruined it.

We stayed over the rosd from it in June.

the pub in hesketh, which was ace,

It's community run, and a brewery. Must get back there soon.
there's a similar deal in Ennerdale Bridge now - Fox and Hounds. The beers have 'mileage travelled', with the local ones being 1.4 miles.
North Lakes is pretty blimmin good as a beer drinking, slightly grumpy middle-aged mountain biker - even in the wind and rain.
STW trails and ales weekend...............?
