The sun was shining with snow on the ground so today was the day to go exploring.

New territory for me and the highlight was a 4 mile long bank and ditch from Roman times, in places it was 100ft. wide and 15ft. high. Loads of tumuli and long barrows, a Roman road and an old coaching road too.

Glorious views in all directions of white fields across three counties and a return visit planned for Spring. You can't beat the English countryside. 8)

You can't beat the English countryside...

... not without driving 500 miles, no. But did they have a superb clear and bright day with no wind?

I was out exploring in sticky mud and persistent freezing drizzle yesterday..

A passing lady dog walker soggily commented through gritted teeth that Id 'picked a lovely day..'

'but surely every day is a lovely day..' is the reply I thought up as I slid around clumsily down the track into the distance..

Stunning day's riding - blue sky, no wind, great company and very unusual conditions

The UK countryside really is wonderful
