I have a XTR 970 Chainset on my Spicy 316 I want to replace the outer with a bash and the middle with a 36t - which middle ring would you recommend any sensible suggestions?

Cheers

I find Blackspire Super pro excellent, good shifting, wear rate and tough enough I dont bother with a bash

Deore steel. Lasts forever, not actually much heavier than an alu one, shifts well but more importantly keeps shifting well due to the slow wear.

TA Chinook without a doubt, nicer than any of the above and also the lightest (and it is going on XTR after all) 😉

I've had the others listed and they shift great, but TA are the business, UKBikestore, and SJS sell them amongst others...

Another vote for the TA Chinook. Smoother shifting than the steel Deore it replaced, and it's cured the chainsuck on my Soul.
