The monkey is likely to have outgrown her Beinn 20L by Christmas (aged 8¾) if not by the birthday in Mar.
What’s the 26” wheel hybrid of choice these days? I don’t really want to pay the Isla tax (not least as there aren’t that many Beinn 26s out there) and her big sister’s Trek Wahoo 26 isn’t much cheaper, especially when swapping out the horrid tyres is taken into account.
Giant ARX at £420?
My kid will be moving on to a used 26er MTB soon.
See if you can trace a Pinnacle Kauri, rigid, 1x, hydraulic discs.
I'd sell you the wife's but she does occasionally threaten to ride it
@ctk Does your kid have one of those Giants now? How tall were they when they moved onto it?
@MoreCashThanDash Looks like a good option; I’ve got a wee while to look…
No he's not on a 26er yet but I've been looking for a replacement bike for him. Ideally I'd like to buy him a decent used 26er hardtail.
My boy is 10 and above average height for his age 140-150cm at a guess. Too big for his 24" wheeled bike definitely but he still likes it.
No. 1 went on the the Trek at 8, but she’s taller and sturdier than her sister. I’m not convinced no. 2 wouldn’t be better off with 24” wheels but that’s now and I’m thinking 6-9 months away.
Wife has suggested Wiggins range from Halfords. Are they still a thing?
I would get a Forme Kinder 26. We've got the 24"and really happy with it. Nicely made and slightly cheaper than Giant. Also had enough tyre clearance for wider tyres of needed.
Carrera Subway junior is ok for the money. Did have one but ended up Cushing the drivetrain to 1x so the savings were lost.
I’ll have a look at the Forme - what’s the stand over like?
Forme are decent bikes - the guy behind it (and his kids) is involved with our cycle club. Decent guy and seems to have the right idea what bikes in each segment actually need.
